Song of the Caged BirdA Poem by HermioneFrostThis is my first experiment with poetry. I was given the theme of "bird cage", and this is what I came up with.
I once lived a symphony
The world was my orchestra The earth, my stage Its creatures, my ensemble And I was the conductor Fiery sunrise Led with distant beauty Into a grand crescendo Through intertwined branches Flowed cool wind Dancing a sweet, legato waltz between Baroque flowers and bees Allegro rivers rushed by steady stones Ornamented with the trills Of citrus salmon And rain's accelerando Time need not exist Nor anything at all For the bliss was in perpetual motion In an eternal melody For that moment Those endless, enchanting moments Nothing could be more perfect Nothing That is exactly what My world has become Nothing These cold bars Threaten to consume me In the sound of pure Silence I try to sing In this empty cage Of iron and darkness But a shadow's duet is a lonely one My tears echo As a requiem from my sorrow Twilight is my serenade And never a friend to me Do not pity me For I belong here Here, in this desolate chamber Without music Oh, my soul I urge you to break free From the bars that confine you Spread your wings, caged bird And fly away Far, far away To happiness But, alas The grave force Is too strong And all that is left In my power Is to sing © 2014 HermioneFrostAuthor's Note
