Her Translucent Inner World

Her Translucent Inner World

A Poem by S.N. Kirton
"

My sophomore English teacher once told the class to write ten poems for our Poetry Unit Project. This is the second poem from my poem project, "Saudade," titled "Her Translucent Inner World."

"
Water fell
Beginning to crystallize before her unfocused gaze.
Time slowed
And each memory gradually froze.
Her life force stopped flowing, her eyes now closing
The first aperture weaved its way through her being-
The next breach ensued by another.
Before long, hopes and dreams she once had
Broke and declined towards the sacred abyss,
In which she hid from the world around her home
Only to shatter and spread upon her non-existence.

People used to say,
Once you’re gone from this realm,
Your spirit,
Like the churning water continuously travels
On to its next destination,
Your soul will also follow.
The sharp decline of your river eventually reached.
However,
Now in the bitter cold
Her river ceased.
For she couldn't let go her still wanted mind made domain.

However,
Slowly,
Her heart began to liquefy.
Her essence gradually,
But surely,
Transforming as light shed
Upon her
And nothing else,
Preserved particles unfroze.
Soon to fall
Into her mind-crafted void as a stream.

The unknown.
Slowly consuming her whole
And as each second passed
Her eyes recognized at last.
Tears shed themselves.
Silent sobs remained within her throat.
The breathtaking luminescence passing through
Her translucent inner world.
