Letting Go

Letting Go

A Poem by S.N. Kirton
"

My sophomore English teacher once told the class to write ten poems for our Poetry Unit Project. This is the first poem from my poem project, "Saudade," titled "Letting Go."

"
As I hold your hand warmly, gently
Anxiety ripples through my being
Following you through the darkness slowly
Your intense though distant warmth diffusing

Here, standing under the colorless sky
My hand leaves yours as a tear does escape
I don’t want to accept, my heart lies
No voice from your lips which rips me agape

Memories steadily flow in my mind
With a sense of love though grief is grand
Recollection of us makes time rewind
Though I remain weeping upon my hands

For such life without you tormented me
Though now no pains exist and you’re set free
