Effects of Light

Effects of Light

A Poem by Henry Clemmons

Death by drowning,

even beneath Monet’s

floating water lilies - white,

beautifully disguise

death’s pale grasp;

submerged in muck

of old duck bones and turtle dung,

in channeled currents veiled from

the effects

of light.

Life by breathing,

even below Van Gogh’s

starry nights,

hauntingly mask

insanity’s surreal grasp

in reflected heaven’s - dark,

of slashing comets and dying suns

in mirrored orbits veiled from

the effects

of  light.

Wow! I usually am a complete stuck-up a*s in my comments, because I like to focus on the mistakes, and corrections that need to be made, but yet again, you have amazed me with your talent.
I could see no wrong, though there is no doubt in my mind that it isn't flawless, nothing seems to be perfect anymore.
Agh, I'm getting off-topic...anyway, great write! Magnifiscent talent!

Beauty is beauty whatever the layers above or below it found in the heart not necessarily in the eyes, sensed by what might be there .. perhaps the artist as well as the poet catches a glimpse and immortalises it .. as you have. The stanzas referring to Van Gogh are mischief in the making seduction, beautiful light indeed.

Sometimes the macabre lurks beneath beauty. What a fantastic take on this theme. The second stanza is grotesque and perfect. It makes the perfect departure from Monet's delicate "Water-lilies". So many times a piece like this is verbose or trite - but I found this to be a true breath of fresh air.

This paints such a picture and I can invision everything said. Their is a peace in this and I guess a bitter-sweet effect. It's hard for me to find the words tonight, but I enjoyed reading this.
