Might It Be Better?

Might it be better to be alone forever?

As I lie alone tonight 

I think about all the times we held each other

 side by side

Wouldn't it be better to be alone forever?

All these thoughts are running around my head 

and I cant seem to get away.

This uphill battle has left me in shackles 

and I'm sure it would be better

So much better 

to be alone forever 

For the ones I loved have slipped away 

and I'm left to face these inner demons

these sort of feelings I cant seem to escape

The harder I try 

the closer they get.

So I fall and fall into the abyss of 

depression and anxiety and the fear

the fear is overwhelming.

As the darkness starts to suffocate me 

I believe

Yes I believe 

Its so much better to be alone

 forever.

Love is a b***h and it causes us great pain as you described in your poem. I think did a great job describing how it affects our psyche with depression and anxiety. Unfortunately, we all need a love and no matter how alone we might want to be our soul eventually will seek that lover. Love this poem. N.

Very nicely done, dark and poignant. Interesting ideas. It seems that we have a kind of trenchant desire for companionship, and when people can be so cruel and unreliable still we seek that companionship, like a moth to the flame, just to escape ourselves for a time in the pursuit of feeling something real or to avoid emptiness and loneliness. Sometimes it seems that we can only really rely on ourselves in a life of constant flux, chaos, and dubious intentions.

Thank you! In reality no one wants to be alone but we all think about it at least once in our lives. Is it really worth the pain that will eventually come? Sometimes you feel as if you are your only friend. The only one that truly cares. But we will eventually yearn for a companion of some sort. Very nice comparison by the way.

I was always back bullied as a lone ranger during my teenage times. It reminds me of those days. Still I am a lone ranger and is in love with it. That Phrase which reads " for the ones I loved have slipped away And I am left to face these inner demons..." hold a very deep meaning. Overall I liked it.

you pose a question that many have asked...at some points in all of our lives we wonder if being alone my reduce the risk of our demons hurting others because those demons certainly seem (though it might be us who do the chasing) to chase family and friends away sometimes...and we might even argue that we are born alone and we will die alone, for birth and death are very personal and individual times for us...but perhaps, the real answer is no... it is always best to drag our demons out, kicking and screaming, so that others can call them by name and help us to battle them...if we sit alone with them, there is no chance at all at winning that fight...

Your poem leaves us with a thought-provoking question... well-done

I have asked my self this question many times. Especially after i lose a close friend or family member. It makes me think if the pain is really worth it. I guess you cant be alone forever because someone is always going to want to talk to you or get to know you better no matter how hard you try and trust me I've tried. I never really thought about the birth and death as being lonely. Of course you yourself are experiencing it but there are others around experiencing it in their own way. Sometimes people go into new relationships expecting things to be a certain way and when they are not, they might as well have shot themselves in the foot.
It pays to be open minded.
Sometimes, if you can get past these little things, you'll find a myriad of things much more important that you will find agreement on. I'm just saying!. I never expect anything ever, so I can't be disappointed!

Beautiful! It's interesting when I go through a break-up or lose a close friendship that I begin to think "Would I have been better off being without this relationship and do I want to go through another relationship again?" So many people can relate to this poem. Very nice!
