For The Steady Course

For The Steady Course

A Poem by Andre Peterson

Some sit close, while others sit closer.
Be still young one, for it's never over.
Because if wishes aligned with the promises we made, no wisdom would be had today.

If the progression caused the tear out on these wide open roads, I'd think back to when I was home.
Yearning for days I'd get to chase trains into the night again.

Then I'd push past the probably cause only to sink further into the fog, I'd cry out and wonder if anyone is listening.

And I'd remember there are many more who'd like to see.
And sit out on these faded docks with me.
And we'd find the answers to the questions we never asked.

Just the two of us, my friends.

And with purpose, I would set off and go, even though I would struggle to tell another living soul,
That my heart beats a little faster when they're around.

To understand is to live and to be kind is to give just a little more than you thought that you once had.
The silence will hurt but the growth is what it's worth all the time you've spent laying around.

And counting the moments until next time.

And I'd remember there are many more like me.
Across the thousand miles that one day I'd like to see.
And we'll find memories to dreams that are still yet to be.
