The First Night

The First Night

A Poem by Andre Peterson

It could have been the coldest December night but I felt so warm.
I looked to the stars above feeling so alone.
It was then I saw you looking at me.
The first time I laid eyes on you.
So long ago.
So young.
You looked so sad.
Then our eyes locked for a few moments.
It felt like a century.
I never wanted to be so close to anyone else before.
A fire inside of me ignited.
And I realized we were still staring at each other.
You looked away first.
Jumped into a car and left.
I never thought I would see you again.
A year later there you were.
Eyes bright.
The biggest smile I have ever seen.
Just the sweetest little thing.
Now time has past.
I never have been more sure.
You are all I ever wanted.
Each day I miss you more and more.
