It's amazing how a collection of buttons can fascinate children. Myself when young, then my children, now my grandchildren. There is the colour ,shape and the kaleidoscope of patterns that stimulate imagination, even engender poems such as this. We don't even have to justify our nostalgic thoughts, just enjoy sorting through them.
A amazing poem. A old fashion feel and you create place and memory for the reader. I liked the items of our elders. The leftovers gifts we need in old age. Thank you Helen for sharing the excellent poetry.

Invisible, like a tear hiding inside a wall" - very beautiful!
now that you remind me of the fascination of a box with buttons - it is something i remember well from my childhood! - I think it is sad I didn't have one for children and don't have one for my grandchildren! Must try to organize one!

Oh, what memories this brings from my attic of yesterday thoughts! We have great expectations as children and we just don't seem to forget those that are unmet, such as that bride-doll that was perhaps so, so hoped for!
We do remember - the good and the bad! We aren't always able to speak of it, and as you say, it remains invisible, yet the heartache is still there.

Absolutely Sheila, spot-on. And those memories seem to surface more as we get older. Thanks for yo.. read moreAbsolutely Sheila, spot-on. And those memories seem to surface more as we get older. Thanks for your visit and lovely review dear friend.
Nanas everywhere are touched by your poem and I am no exception. These days that tear comes as I cuddle my granddaughter while remembering and missing my own very special grandmother who had a container of buttons just like your photo. I do realize that every good, and every sad, moment in life helps shape the person we ultimately become.
