In The Blink of an Eye

In The Blink of an Eye

A Poem by Helen Crutchett

 A newborn baby yawns

In The Blink of an Eye

Born astonished

In the blink of an eye

A moment lived

A lifetime of dying

Misfortune between

First and last terrible breath

I paste hope and faith

on a grim face of the future

Dipping my feet in the icy pool

of living

I abhor the scorching of the sun and

Wake to the sound of a weeping world

Fighting out of control forces ~

Our memories, the proof that we have lived, are indeed the blink of an eye as life propels us towards our death. It is what we so between the blinks, whilst our eyes are open, that counts. You have celebrated the beauty of living in the face of imminent death and done so with effortless grace and skill. This is a new favourite!
