Dark Night of the Soul

Dark Night of the Soul

A Poem by Helen Crutchett

i

THE DARK NIGHT OF THE SOUL

Through the dark night of the soul

With no treasure maps to guide me

No helpful signs along the way

No hiding from that bird of gloom...

Through loneliness's grey shadings

Over starless and moonless slumbering

Under clinging shrouds of blackness

I have been one acquainted with the night...

When hope was adrift on sea tides

Witches rode on hideous brooms

In the dead of pitch night

Cold shivers ran down my spine

To a grave of skeleton memories

When I lost my way in a labyrinth

Of disillusionment and pain

ln one moment of time

I was one acquainted with the night.

somber mood..so relatable ... it is that night time terror that seeds ones faith ...it looses its power once learned ...becomes a welcomed velvet ;) i am reminded of the Bible line:
"O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?" 1 Corinthians 15:55

Powerful, Helena!
But, what else would we expect from your glowing pen than the depth of imagery, emotion, and metaphor you always so skillfully grace us with.
Gripped in the throes of sorrowful pain and the ever-present uncertainty of life, itself, one can perceive both dark and light in ways not normally allowed to us … portals in mind, soul, body, and spirit open in such ways one sees with new eyes, let's say.
Well, you've hit me so hard with this one, Helena, I could pontificate your eyes off … LOL! So, lest I do, let me close by saying, "Welcome back, and may your poetry take on a brighter glow, henceforth!"
Fantastic flow and word choices, presentation, and picture selections to befit this stirring episode, BTW!

Big hugs 'n smiles to You, Helena! ⁓ Richard : )

Indeed, the dark upon life, blind we are much of it....
Looking for lights in life I always do, and try to keep close the ones I find...
You capture this greatly!!!
