Chapter 5: A Dinner to Remember

Night came soon enough, and the girls got into their beds.

“Can we go to sleep now, I just want to get back to my people in Solarist. No offense but I don’t want to talk right now,” Ruby said, sleepily

Ruby immediately fell into a deep slumber. Back in Solarist she found herself at a large dining table, and Feather and her brother all dressed up.

“Hello!” Feather greeted Ruby cheerfully. Ruby smiled at her, and at her brother as well.

“Oh might I ask what is your name young gentleman,” Ruby said trying to sound formal.

“U-um, I a-am Leigh, my full name is Leigh Jay Rean. My sister’s full name is Feather Corlita Rean,” Leigh said quickly in a very nervous tone.

“Don’t be afraid. I’ve changed, this time I promise on this star I’ll be the best leader I can be,” Ruby smiled at Leigh. Soon servants and maids came in with drinks on fancy gold cups. A maid kindly offered one each to both Feather and Leigh

“It’s grape juice, your honoured guests,” she told them. Feather took a sip and collapsed onto the ground. Leigh immediately dropped his glass, squeezed Feather’s hand, and felt her temperature. She was cold…

Ruby picked the little girl up and placed her next to the fire place. “Poor child,” She whispered to herself. Leigh desperately tried to hold Feather and get her away from Ruby, having a fear that she would burn his beloved sister into the fire.

“Y-your h-highness, m-may I hold my sister please?” Leigh begged, desperate to get hold of Feather.

“It’s alright, she will be fine in a few minutes,” Ruby insisted. Leigh was worried at the point he tried to snatch her away. He tugged at Ruby’s arm trying to get her to let go. But he was hungry and weak, his efforts were useless.

“Let go of my sister,” He whimpered, starting to cry.

“Oh gosh! I’m ever so sorry I upset you Leigh, I’ll take her to a room and you two can stay the night,” Ruby exclaimed, and she took them to an unused room. The room was quite big with a Big four poster bed in the middle. Ruby laid Feather down onto the bed, and started the fire. Leigh immediately ran to his sister. He felt her wrist for a pulse and to his relief, there was a response.

“Doctor!” Ruby called. A man immediately came, and started to tend to Feather. Ruby had another maid come and get Leigh and Feather their dinner and put it on their bedside table. “Make sure they both eat doctor,” Ruby said seriously, “I’ll check on you two next time I come. I know this place has some gruesome things they do to villagers like you. So I will now temporarily pronounce you as Princess Feather Corlita Rean and Prince Leigh Jay Rean,” Ruby announced. The doctor, maid, and Leigh looked at her shocked. “It’s just temporarily. Maybe if they are a good prince and princess they can be them forever, but for now it’s just to keep them safe,” Ruby explained. “Make sure they are well looked after while I’m gone,”
