A Story by Heather
"

Based off of the movie "Adventureland" but I'm not really copying it, I'm using some of it then my own stuff. Enjoy! :}

"
Em: I am getting ready to go to an interview at this place called "Adventureland" I have my hair down, barely wearing any make up, and wearing a t-shirt and shorts, I am drinking a coke in a medium sized cup. "Well here goes nothing." I muttered to myself as I enter the interview room and theres this guy whos handsome and much older than myself. I try not to stare at him but I can't help it, my hearts beating fast and my hands are sweating. "Hi Mr.Connell I'm Emily Em for short, how are you?" I ask.

Mike: Glancing up from my paperwork, I furrow my brow. I really wasn't expecting someone...pretty. That probably sounds shallow as hell, but it's true. Some of the girls I've got working here are uglier than roaches. It's just the truth. "Oh, uh, hi." I give her an easy smile, taking in her body. I can't say that I wasn't shocked - eyes lingering on her legs, I shake my head. "Hello, Emily." I say quickly, recovering myself as fast as I possibly could. "I'm fine," clasping my hands together, I gesture for her to sit down, taking a hand through my hair. "And how are you? Please, sit down."

"I'm doing quite well thanks for asking. So you're looking for someone to work in the game area of Adventure land correct?" I ask and I am maintaining proper eye contact and good posture as I sit in my seat. Man Mike or should I say Mr.Connell is really hot. "So are you married? single? engaged? got kids" I ask as his assistant hands me a coffee to drink

“Oh,” I say, laughing to myself. She certainly was direct, and I can't say that I'm objecting to her intensity. “Yes, I am. We, uh, we really don't have a lot of people down at the games right now, so yeah, I could really use another person.” I'm trying to be a friendly guy, I really am. With the amount of teenagers that I have working here, I've had to learn to be a bit of a lax boss, to be their friend. Really, it's not that difficult. Girls like her are easy to talk to. “The only other person we have working down there right now is Cricket, but she really doesn't do a whole lot, so I don't think you'll have a problem with her.” Widening my eyes at her next question, I feel myself blush. “I actually just got divorced a couple of months ago. No kids, of course. I wasn't quite ready for that kind of commitment, I guess.

"I understand completely sir. I got out of a bad relationship with a guy who just wasn't worth my time, but no more about that, this isn't about him. So Cricket huh? She sounds nice." I say smiling and I'm wearing this http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j466/MoonlightHeather/Adventureland/tumblr_lmoro6nhq21qfvtaqo1_500.jpg?t=1341258799 [say those are shorts :D] and my legs are smooth and shining because I just shaved, got out of the shower and put some on body cream all over including my legs and the scent is coconut.

I can feel myself relax as she speaks about her ex-boyfriend, strangely relieved that she broke up with him. I don't know what's wrong with me. For Christ's sake, she's a teenager. Furrowing my brow gently, I reach out, and just for one split second, touch her hand. “I'm uh, I'm sorry about your boyfriend.” I offer, and smile gently. “About Cricket..she's...well, she's Cricket. She's not really a hard worker, and she's kind of a little bit of a flirt, but I'm sure you two will get along fine. She brings us money, so, I kind of have to let her stay.” I grin, and recline back in my seat. “So, you want the job?”

"Oh don't worry about it, I couldn't be more happier than I am right now." I smile and touch his hand, my heart still beats fast as I touch for only a mere second. "Yeah I would love to have the job, thanks."  I say very happily and then I hug him.

I feel my body tense as she wraps her arms around my middle, and I smile. “I'm really glad, Em. Truly.” I hesitantly envelop her in my arms, exhaling a deep breath as I sink into her touch. She was a really, really good hugger. And I liked that about my women. Jesus, what is wrong with me? It's unlikely that she's eighteen yet, and by just touching her...I feel strange. Not bad, mind you. It's a good sort of feeling. Like I could possibly get to know this girl. To like her. “Okay. You want me to go grab your uniform and go down to where you'll be working? I think you need to meet your co-workers.”

"oh why thank you sir. I'll go put this on right away." I say and go change in the bathroom, and I put away my normal everyday clothes into my purse, I spray on some perfume thats sexy yet simple. I come out and my hair is just tucked behind my ears and I'm now chewing gum. "so how many days do we have to work?" I ask and I'm walking beside him outside.

"Well," I smile, rubbing the back of my neck. She really filled out that uniform. I wasn't going to say anything, of course. I guess that would be kind of out of line, with me being her boss. And about 12 years older than her. But whatever. That was beside the point. "You look really nice, Em." I grin, and offer her my arm, gesturing around the park. "Okay, so, over there we've got the rides. Lisa's the one who works them, but, you know. I don't know if she's here just yet. She has *quite* the reputation around here, just so you know." I break away for a moment, furrowing my brow. She was late. Again. Honestly, I don't know what that woman's problem is. "Over there we've got Bobby and Paulette, they kind of run the show here. Sue and Joel, you'll probably meet them later. I'm sure they'll take a shine to you, Em. And then....over there is Cricket and her boyfriend Tommy." I sigh, noticing that the only thing that they're doing is making out on top of the balloons counter. "Hey. Break it up!" Glancing back to Emily, I offer her an apologetic smile. "They're the closest to your age, so I guess we should probably go introduce you..."

"oh thats totally fine, everyone including girls love being around their boyfriends and kissing them I understand. Hi Cricket, and Tommy." I said in a cheerful voice. I drink the rest of my coffee and throw it away in one of the trashcans nearby and went to the games. "So what do you have to do in order to work?" I ask and push my hair back out of my face. Sometimes I considered wearing a hair bow.

"Urgh." I shake my head, grinning at my newest employee. "They're a bit of a handful, sometimes." resting my hand on the back of my neck, I shift my weight to my other foot, exhaling a deep sigh. "Well." I bite down on my lower lip, eyes searching hers. She was gorgeous. A teenager, yes, but...well, I'm a man. I have the right to look. Even if that makes me some sort of...pervert. Shaking my head to clear my mind, I offer her an easy smile. "Well, you'll be pretty much running the show, Em. Manning the games, prizes, the whole shebang." Resting my hand on her shoulder, I lean down, eyes meeting hers. "I have a feeling that you're going to be my favorite. And I have a lot of faith in you." Smiling, I push a piece of dark, chocolate hair behind a pert ear, feeling heat rise to my cheeks.

"Oh well...thank you Mr.Connell that means a lot to me I will do my best." I blush and yet again my heart is beating fast as he gets close to me and I take his hand. "wanna go grab some lunch? There's a Japanese place in town that I haven't been to in so long." I ask and the suns super hot and so is Mr.Connell.

From the corner of my eye, I'm sure that I can see Cricket pull away from Tommy, furrow her brow. S**t. "Well," I say hesitantly, squinting in the mid-afternoon sunshine. "I think my break is coming up..." I glance to my watch, a sigh escaping my lips. "I mean, I don't think anything major is going to happen in the next hour, so.." I grin, and squeeze Em's hand, running my thumb against the smooth skin of her palm. "Why not? I think it would be fun."

"Alright that sounds like a plan." I smile and lead him to my car which is a vintage 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 thats black and VERY clean. "I hope you like the car, it was a birthday present from my parents and I absolutely adore it." I smile again and now 15 minutes pass by and we arrive at this Japanese place called "Sogo" the waiter lets us in and seats us. "This place is really nice yet a little pricy but worth every penny you spend here because the food is good." I say and we are sitting in a booth, I instinctively hold his hand and drink some sake.

"Well, I'm sure I trust your opinion." I smile, and sit down in the booth next to her, hesitating a bit as she grabs my hand. I feel a little strange, but not in a bad way. I mean, sure, I was holding hands with a teenager who, now, was my employee, but it wasn't a bad feeling. It was...pleasant, I guess you could say. I was in a nice place, with a pretty girl, in the middle of the afternoon. Sun floods through the window to our right, and I relax my body, arching an eyebrow at Em. "Er, is it okay for you to be drinking?" I didn't want to be a wet blanket or anything, but I'm the adult, here. I'm supposed to be the one taking care of her. "Not that I'm objecting, of course, I'm just...you know."

"yeah and Sakes not bad, wanna try some of mine?" I offer and get close to his lips but there's some space left between us. "You know you're very hot and sweet." I whisper in  his ear.

I tense, exhaling a deep breath. "Thank you," I murmur, taking a hesitant sip. No one had ever really came on to me like that before - not since my divorce, and certainly not by a teenager. "Em," I whisper, my voice husky. I take her hand in mine, lacing my fingers around her's. "You're seventeen." I lean in, lips tentatively brushing the side of her face. "I'm...I'm *thirty*, Em."

"Age doesn't matter to me honestly. I'm not about age, job wise, looks and all that. It's the personality that counts in a person. Trust me I know what I'm doing." I turn his face towards mine and kiss his lips sweetly but tenderly.

I lean forward into the kiss, cupping her face in my hands. Pulling her lips to mine, I rest a hand on the concave of her chest. I'm way older than her. I'm recently divorced. I'm..ancient compared to her. "Emily," I murmur, breaking apart to rest my lips on the base of her neck "Do you really think that we should be doing this? In a public place?" I was pretty sure that Cricket had seen me...hitting on her, and with her suspicious, the whole park would know about the two of us soon enough.

"I'm sure Mr.Connell and so what? Let people watch I don't really care." I rest a hand on his leg and kiss him then our food comes out and I start to eat. I feed him some Sushi. "how is it?" I ask.

“Em,” I say, and pull away from her, face hot. “I don't think we should...” I eye her up and down, running a hand through my hair, heart quavering in my chest. She was so beautiful. She was so pure. She was so...young. Struggling with myself, I hesitantly take a bite of the food presented to me, nodding in approval. I'd never had sushi before " the thought of raw fish repulsed me. But somehow, being with Em made it a hell of a lot better. I glance down at her, and ruffle her brunette locks, smiling. Sure, I was a bit...hesitant, but I was enjoying my time with her. And for me, that was rare.

"You know Sushi is good for you? Anyways no need to worry I don't mind at all." I say and get closer to him. I smile "I'm not drunk but I wanna go to your house tonight please" I ask and smile big :D

"Uh, yeah." I grin, and take another bite of the fish, enjoying the texture on my tongue. Oh, Christ. What was it that she had just said? I shake my head, setting my hand on top of hers. "Emily," I say, my voice low. She was a gorgeous girl, with a lithe body, with a quick mind...a beautiful face. But I wasn't sure how I felt about this. I was going to hell for being with this girl. But right now, I really didn't care. "Are you ready for that next step?"

"I asked you if I could come to your house? Is that ok?" I say and smile once more. "Yes I'm sure, I'm a risk taker." I say and drink some more Sake.

"You're...you're sure?" I smile, and grab her hand beneath the table, leaning in to capture her lips with mine. "I...I suppose so." I laugh rather nervously, feeling heat rise to my cheeks, and let my fingers ghost her face. "Emily, I..." Suddenly, a shock of blonde hair. A headband. That obnoxious green shirt that I knew all too well. "Hello, Mister Connell!" Chirps the girl, swinging her hand with her boyfriend's. "I didn't know that you ate here, too!" Cricket grins, and Tommy raises an eyebrow. I sigh, and look away, immediately dropping Emily's hand. I couldn't let them see us together. Cricket would most definitely report them. She was just that kind of girl. The young man raises an eyebrow. "Well, hello, there." He grins, and offers his hand to Emily. "I don't believe we've met~. I'm Tommy, and this is Cricket...you're our new employee, right? It's nice to see such a pretty face." The blonde growls, and elbows him the ribs. "Shut up, Tommy." I furrow my brow. Who the hell did this guy think he was? He couldn't just come in and start flirting with someone that I had declared as...you know. My own. Sighing, I glance away, running my hand along Emily's thigh from beneath the table. "So, um," Chirps Cricket, smiling at the both of us. "What are you two doing here?"

"I invited him with me to eat at Japanese place and well here we are." I say and smile. "What brings you two around here? I mean I don't mind that you're here but who's managing the games at Adventureland?" I ask and drink another Sake.

“Um, well,” I brace myself, waiting. Cricket always had some sort of ridiculous excuse, and Tommy was always there to back her up. They were a dangerous duo in this kind of situation, and I seriously couldn't tell what was about to come out of that girl's mouth. “We *might* have closed the park for just a little bit.” I exhale, pinching my temples with my forefingers. “Cricket.” I murmur, and groan, glancing to Emily. “You can't be serious.” Tommy, grinning like the idiot he is, arches an eyebrow. “But she is! We were *so* hungry, bro. I can't let my girl go hungry, no can I?” The girl pulls away, still obviously miffed at his flirtation with Em. I exhale, and glance to Emily, raising my eyebrows. “We should probably be getting back, Emily,” I say gently, using her full name to not attract attention. I feared that if I used her nickname...Cricket would think something was going on. I purse my lips together, offering her an apologetic smile. “Aw, but we've only just gotten here.” The young woman pouts, glancing to her boyfriend. “Yeah, don't you want to hang out with us?” I shake my head, grinning. “No, guys, we'll just be off. Someone has to take care of the park, you know.”

"ok well me and Mr.Connell will be eating here until we both are ready to leave." I smile but ignore her boyfriends flirtation with me and I am now done eating. I get ready to pay the check. "Are you ready to leave?" I ask and leave a $5 tip on the table.

I clear my throat, averting my eyes briefly. Really, I was terrified of Cricket. Her father could cut me down in a second, take the park away.It was that quick. "Well, I'll see you around, Cricket. Tommy." The duo nod, eyebrows raised, and I take Emily's hand rather quickly, once we were out of sight, of course. I run my thumb along the side of her hand, pushing the door open with the greatest of ease. "Well," I exhale, now out of breath from the rather awkward interaction. "That wasn't exactly what I was hoping for."

"Yeah I agree, I mean I didn't really wanna see her and him." I take your hands, close my eyes, stand on my tip toes and kiss you with tongue, running my hands through your hair and I feel your hands go under my shirt. "mm Connell, lets get to your house." I purr in his ear.

My tongue hesitantly tickling the shell of your ear, I pull away. "Are you sure about this, Em?" I raise my eyebrows, eyes filling with concern. "I really don't want to do anything you're not comfortable with." Allowing you to walk beside me, I slip my hand in your back pocket, an easy smile retching across my lips. "You know, I'm still a little worried about this." I hesitate, clearing my throat gently. "I mean..you're not an adult yet. I could get in a lot of trouble, Em."

"Don't worry about me I'm fine with anything." I smile and take your hand then hold it. I kiss it. "I just wanna make you happy." We go inside your house and we are both soaking wet from the rain. "Nice house. Yours?" I ask and sit down on the couch.

"Yeah," I murmur, letting my eyes flit to yours. "Um, it was a...gift." I smile, hoping you won't ask any further questions. You're sure to inquire what sort of gift, but really...I'm not sure I want to talk about it. Eying you as you fall back onto the couch, I take a hand through my hair. "You just...you just want to make me happy?" I chuckle, glancing down to my feet. "I..I haven't heard that in a long time."

"of course. I'm happy but I can see it in your eyes that you need someone and I can help you." I smile and hug you from behind kissing your bare shoulders and feeling your muscles with my hands. "You know you're so strong." I purr in your ear.

It does need a bit of editing, and I am insanely confused all the time about who was talking and when, but it's a good plot line and has great potential :)

@Hester Vane: I totally understand my dear. :) Adventureland is a movie from 2009, Mike Connell was portrayed by Ryan Reynolds and Emily aka "Em" was portrayed by Kristen Stewart. If you don't like her than that's fine but don't talk bad about her to me or else I won't be happy. But thanks for spotting the mistakes and all that. I shall work on it soon!

Well you definatley have a good concept and characters. I enjoyed reading this! I know its work in progress so the things ive spotted will probably be things you know. First, You dont need the Em: and Mike: at the start. If you are going to switch between two narrative speakers in the same piece I would use different fonts, one for Emily and one for Mike.Otherwise it just gets confusing when it switches. You can tell when you read it but the visual clue of different fonts would really help. Theres a few grammatical errors so i would suggest writing it in a Microsoft word or something like that and then pasting it in WriterCafe. Your dialouge is natural and easy to follow. Ive never seen adventureland so this is new to me, but definatley try and distance yourself from it! The overall flow of the piece is good, just needs some tweeks. Keep at it, i would like to read more!
