Run.

Run.

A Story by WindsorWolf28

The city burned, fire lighting up the night sky.
I kept running, ash blowing off my burnt and bruised skin.
I ran atop the roofs of crumpling buildings, some parts ablaze, others just smoking.
I saw a jump across from me. It was a twenty-four foot gap between the ledge and another burnt structure. I had to make this jump.
I leapt. I pushed hard on my left leg and pulled my other knee to my chest.
I barely caught the hot metal bar on the side of the structure.
I heard shouting behind me as I attempted to pull myself up.
I heard their pounding footsteps as the men reached the street beneath me and the building behind me.
"Ready,"
"Aim,"
I didn't give them a chance to finish. In an act of pure desperation, I pulled my foot onto the bar and pushed onto the barely intact building. The men could barely see me through the smoke. But I couldn't really see either.

I like it except for the last sentence. I think it doesn't really mean anything apropos to the story. Maybe something that gives the story a more profound meaning or gives the reader something maybe a little obscure to think about.

What's really happening here? As it stands, it's just some girl running and jumping. Just my thoughts.
