Ant Farm

Ant Farm

A Poem by Joe Heath
"

Minding the ant farm with my partner on a work night and tapping in to the child like fascination with nature.

"
Ant Farm
To prod, poke and coax,
The rush as we grab at scurrying legs with clumsy work worn hands
Try to be gentle though hard it is, not to hurt these minute creatures of intelligence
To stand together eyes locked in concentration and fascination
The glass is pulsing, a colony within
Try to appreciate the beauty of nature though hard to find the time
To be grown men our youth is past
The weight of the every day, life just getting in the way
Try to remember but boys we are, underneath we haven’t really changed a bit

So much truth in your poem! I had a flashback to a day that I spent with my son watching the activity of an ant hill. Something so simple can be so profound!

You have compassion and a kind heart...why not allow it to show?
