My Mother's Love

I know you didn't abandon me at all.

Yeah, I'm just scarred by all the things I saw. 

But why didn't you protect me when it happened?

Why weren't you there to see it happen?

Now, I'm just scared and have no kind of trust.

For a lot of men, not just us. 

How could I ever be afraid of you?

We have that connection and that deep strong love, too.

When I needed you at the time, you were gone. 

I just kept wondering how long is this going to go on?

Most of the time you agreed to let'em do me wrong.

Now, I'm pretty scared of men.

I'm growing up and trying to get out of back then.

You helped me along the way.

You gave me all the right things to do and say.

Honestly, I don't know where I'll be.

You said when he get's out of prison, you'll do everything you can to protect me.

You're just a wonderful mother and my best friend.

In the long run, you're the one that I'll come to in the end.

I like the straight forward expression of your feelings.

really great poetry (inn my opinion) evokes an emotional response in the reader. It is all about how well we engage, involve and evoke that reader...

Your writing has emotional impact, the feelings convey and impinge on the reader (me in this case :))

Straight rhyme schemes (where each line rhymes with the last) have a directness to them that creates impact. You do that well

It would be interesting to see what you can create if you vary the rhyme schemes, make every other line rhyme, or the second line rhyme with the fourth etc etc. Play with it!

With the amount of talent you have for expression I think you could do serious damage if you explore that idea. I only say it because your potential is so great!

I can't help but feel sympathy for the little girl in the poem writing to her mother, appreciative of all she has done. What I like about the poem is how real it feels. Scars make us who we are, but they should never redefine us. Thanks for sharing.
