Invisible Monsters

Invisible Monsters

A Poem by Marcus R V Fielder

The paved path in front of me stretches out,

A mass of hop-scotch grids all lined up,

Fuzzy hedges overbear each side of me,

The winter wind races down the path straight,

Echoing out, blustering the hedges out like a ceiling-less tunnel,

It’s like a stampede of invisible monsters rushing forward,

In single file, one after the other, head to tail,

They intend to bowl me over, push me aside,

They thunder down the path, getting closer,

Like a bullet train, an expulsion of air,

It’s like standing on the station in the underground,

You feel it coming, the burst of air,

Like invisible monsters, the wind is like,

Watching it before it happens, you know what to expect,

It hits me, I struggle against the torrent, fight with my coat,

With the wind comes a bombardment of rain drops lifted from the leaves,

And in that moment, I could have been standing in a tempest.
