On The LIneA Poem by Hayli MakennaA young girl and an old woman have a discussion on love.
I sat with the old woman
whose eyes held a disappointment like no other. "Silly child, " She'd begun, "you put your heart out on the line, and only for the ones that you know will break it." I showed no sign of disrespect like any girl my age would at the fact that an elderly woman was telling me about love. I simply offered a small smile, and an explanation. "Eventually, the pain doesn't hurt," I'd said, and she tilted her head. "You become numb to the pain of heartbreak, and it simply feels like a normal occurrence." She'd nodded slightly, and added "It only hurts less after your first." And I know she's right. And this is why my heart is on the line.
