Raspberry Tea

Raspberry Tea

A Poem by Hayley
"

Inspiration partially owed to e.e. cumming's The Cambridge Ladies. Just an experiment, really.

"

My throat is a pot of tea

Boiled black like raspberry

With all the sweetness of a sunday

(Floating leaves floating ashes)

Sipping in their feathered hats

The church ladies never felt the cold

Flighting at a misgiving’s call

Carrying only their empty cups

(Little cakes and delicate gloves

 For delicate situations)

Yet when my spoon clanged

They reeled like their candied laughs

“Pour me another”

And I stained their pearls

Again. Wow.

This still has that ee cummings feel, but, with a female William Blakish tune to the words themselves.

Really moved well. Said a lot.
And the ()s are my favorite parts...they roll off like witty little punchlines.

Great poem. You remind me of the old poets that I enjoy reading and that have influenced my own writings. Guys like William Blake (my all time favorite) and Edmund Spenser. This is good work.

Hayley,

Its good to have fun and to stretch your mind and its limits. Our thoughts have meaning - whether based on fiction or real life/events (ours or just the world). There is a reason for stereotypes... perceptions are fed by movies and stories and the witnessing of an event ...told and retold. Reality doesn't need to encroach upon a good vision.

You speak well and with clarity. The lesson: speak up and be heard!

Ohhhhhhhh, damn! Good, my favorite part is that you have about three different pictures going on at different times yet they weave together extremely well and the last line was absolutely amazing

you are back with a bang I must say! This is great! This can be interpreted in so many ways... As for me, I think it talks about the double-faced attitude our society suffers from these days... there is always bitterness concealed in a sugar-coated smile, a sense of under-achievement in all the self driven talks of prolific success.... you never know all those coffee table gossips that you participate in may be directed at you once you turn your back! Dark shades of raspberry is what the truth is... the sweetness stays just for some fraction of time since the first sip
