The Cage That Will Set You Free

The Cage That Will Set You Free

A Poem by Hayden Ferguson
"

Even in a place as hellish as jail one can still find peace.

"

The law comes to my house and spits in my face,

Only to confine me inside of this place.

This place is not so fresh to me,

It is stale like my rags of tangerine.

There are guards inside to keep us safe,

So why are they so full of hate?

Everyone here claims to be a saint,

But the chances for a confession is faint.

There are grown men who are aged more than me,

And boys who act as if they were three.

The state is starving us here,

But no one seems to care or think this is weird.

The noise is clamoring I cannot think,

Oh my God my life is going down the sink.

My mother is sick of me,

And the bank has claimed my home due to an unpaid fee.

My brother cannot handle life and now is dead,

I am facing a decade inside of the penn.

Take it easy and try to breathe,

Try to set your mind at ease.

These are battles to be fought on another day,

All you can do is worry anyway.

Close your eyes and discover your inner-self,

This is the only person you can help.
