Acrostic

Acrostic

A Poem by Sharon L.H. Kelly

Momma, can you hear me?
Open you mouth, I have your medicine.
Rest now, my Best Girl.
Please know how much I love you. Forever, then for Eternity!
Horrible sounds escape from your lips. Death's rattle, vibrating through the house and lodging into my mind and soul.
I pray that you can't know or feel the demons spewing their vile deep inside.
Night is beginning to shroud you.
Extinguishing your flickering light, as it closes in like the lid of your coffin.

My condolences to you. It is not easy to lose a loved one. You are blessed with a true gift of being able to put those emotions to paper. Peace and comfort to you.

Yes, very overwhelming and powerful. I was with my sister-in-law as she took her last breath from cancer. Morphine was heavily used. What makes a great poem is connecting with your readers. You have done that. And by the way...I LOVE acrostics!

Thank you. I like them too.
first one I read, very overwhelming and strong stuff, my Mother died 26 years ago but I can recall similarities in your poem to her last hours, very touching personally, a great poem.

I'm so sorry. I remember the morphine that dripped into my mother as she lay dying of cancer. It gives relief yet steals final moments. I am so sorry for your loss.
