A Chapter by Havatara

September 18, 1859

Dear Lucy,

I’m glad you’re happy.  It’s good that you’ve started school.  Your grandmother would have been so proud of you.  Just remember to study and keep up your grades so you can go to University.  Isn’t there one in St. Paul?  Well, I guess I should just tell you to do what you want, because that’s going to be the most important thing anyway.

I agree with you about the Old Magic.  The world doesn’t really need it.  We have science now, and that should be good enough.  Who knows, maybe the Old Magic is science.

I have to admit something to you.  This is going to be my last letter to you.  I have somewhere else I need to be, and you’re doing fine by yourself.  Send my best regards to Duncan.

And as to your question, there’s a very simple answer.  I was there.

Sincerely, Sara

Author's Note

Havatara
This is the last chapter. Letters ended up being 63 pages and 26,073 words long. I hope you enjoyed reading it.

I'm considering writing a sequel. It wouldn't be for a little while. I have some other projects I want to work on. It would be during the Civil War, and it would be first person with Lucy. It won't be in the letter format, as much fun as it was to write this way.

(pssst, notice the signature!)
