A Chapter by Havatara

Dear Safiya,

Most of them are, except my elbows and knees.  I’m in a wheelchair until they’re better, which isn’t all that bad.  The twins have fun pushing me around, and that gives me an excuse for not having to do anything.

I think, when I’m better and after I move in with Agnes, I’m going to go to school.  I agree with Grandma.  School is important.  Besides, then I’ll be able to see Duncan whenever I want, even though he promised he’d visit me often at Agnes’s cottage.

I found out Duncan’s secret.  You’ll never believe it.  Guess what his real name is?  Thomas Shoenbornerson III.  He’s Thomas’s grandson.  Can you believe it?  I couldn’t when he first told me.

You know, you never told me what happened with Grandma after she came to America.  I’d really like to know.

Love, Lucy
