A Chapter by Havatara

Dear Safiya,

I do not know how you can just stop in the middle like that.  Who’s the family of the prophecy?  Why was Thomas not allowed to talk to her?  He never really answered the question.

No, we do not know his name yet.  He’s secretive.  But things with Jamie are going fantastic.  There’s a dance in the city hall next week, and I got Cindy’s permission to let me go.  I won’t be allowed to buy a new dress, but I have some ribbon that I can sew onto one of the dresses that I already have.  And some of my other dresses have lace on them that I don’t really like that I think would go fantastic on the dress I want to wear.  Yes, I think I’ll do that.

You know, ever since Anna healed me I was feeling fine, but last night I was starting to feel ill again.  It was just before dinner.  I had made porridge for breakfast, and I only had an apple and a sandwich that Mrs. Shuster had made for me when I was talking with Jamie today.  Nothing too rich, and I wasn’t full after I ate.  I must have caught a bug.

The man that’s staying here talked to me today.  When he talks he’s actually not all that strange.  Just shy, with too many secrets.  We talked about his job.  He’s a teacher.  He’s going to teach at the new school they’re building, and he told me that as soon as he gets his first paycheck he’s going to rent his own apartment.  I don’t understand why he can’t get one now, since he’s so rich.  Really.  I don’t like having to feed another person.

I’m still sick.  This bug is getting worse.  I think I should go to Jaime’s and ask his mother if she knows anything to get rid of it.  Do you remember that weight I just gained?  Well, it’s gone again.  I have no idea what to do.  The worst thing is that Cindy is making me do more chores than ever, for absolutely no reason.

Speaking of chores, a pile of laundry has my name on it, and if it isn’t done before dusk Cindy will throw a fit.

Sincerely, Lucy
