A Chapter by Havatara

July 8, 1859

Dear Safiya,

Well, why did you just stop?  Where was he?  You know, that is getting very annoying, seeing as I have no questions this time.

I am not in the mind to marry him.  I just want to get to know him better is all.  There’s nothing wrong with that.  Nothing at all.  Absolutely nothing.  Right?

I found out that they are coming over in two day’s time, on the tenth.  So I will have time to prepare the food and clean and such.  Of course the MacJohns aren’t doing anything.

I am trying to decide what to make.  Mrs. MacJohns is letting me choose.  I already said that I’m making meat pies, but I want them to have some cheese in them as well.  And then I was hoping to make scalloped potatoes with basil and some Jell-O.  So if I do not reply as quickly as normal, that will be why.

It is very strange, I am still feeling ill.  I have tried everything, and I even went to bed early last night and got up late, but it seems to be getting worse.  I am worried that I won’t be well enough in time for the dinner.

I must cut this letter a bit short.  I have things that I must do.  For the dinner, I mean.

Sincerely, Lucy
