A Chapter by Havatara

It seemed like forever, but Rosemary finally woke up. The first thing she saw was a bright yellow room, which brought her some pleasure. She recognized the room from a memory long ago, but couldn’t quite put her finger on where it was. She sat up in her bed and tooked at the not that was on the table next to her. It read:

‘Look outside and you’ll know where we are from the pictures.’

Rosemary pushed the lacy curtains aside and stared. She couldn’t believe it. She did know where they were. Exactly where they were. There was a knock on the door, and she turned around.

“I can’t believe how long you’ve slept. Three days! I didn’t think I hit you on the head that hard. Here’s some breakfast. You’ll never guess who came to get me! I’m sure you can, but . . .” said a woman, setting some sushi on a table.

“Susan!” Rosemary yelled. Susan smiled at her. Susan had a warm smile. She had purple eyes that kindly glowed, and straight black hair that made her resemble her mother. She was tall, and her hands where long and gentle. She was incredibly thin, too.

“Why did you hit me on the head? I wanted to see you fight your mother. I’ve been dying to see that for years now, you know. I already had to endure how my mother died, I just wanted to see yours die, too,” said Rosemary. When Susan’s warm smile turned into a frown, she knew this wasn’t good.

It took a while for Susan to answer, but she finally said, “Mom got away, so you have to stay here for a while. I’m so terribly sorry. I was being so stupid, I forgot how strong you were. Stronger than me, I know.”

“Don’t say that. You’re well over 1,000 years older than me. You’ve had more experience in the fighting category,” said Rosemary, wanting to keep this situation as pleasant as possible.

She was glad when her half-sister smiled at her with a raised eyebrow. “Oh really? And I was the one born in the middle of a battle. I think not. You’ve been around fighting since the day you were born. And that’s only because my mother turned bad after her reincarnation. I’m just glad I didn’t do the same. Now, I bet you’re wondering about that human of yours. You can go see him if you like. The Brothers are there with him. Don’t worry, they’re having fun.”

Rosemary skipped breakfast and ran downstairs and out to the backyard to find, Michael, Bodoleck, and Bodoleck’s brother, Medeleck all racing around the large field that they were in. As soon as Michael caught sight of Rosemary, they stopped.

“Hey Rosemary! Want to come and join the fun?” asked Michael.

“He’s fast for a human,” said Medeleck. Medeleck was a very muscular vampire. His enormous height only added muscles, or appeared to, anyway. He had short brown hair and fiery red eyes that gleamed in the bright morning sun.

Rosemary without a doubt joined them, loving the fact that they were in the middle of nowhere on a country farm, and that Veripema was miles and miles away. They were in Romania.

They raced around the field throwing a small blue ball around. Michael only occasionally caught it, but when he did, it was immediately taken away from him by Medeleck, who seemed to be able to hold his footing better than his little human friend.

After about an hour, Rosemary was tired of hanging around with the boys and went over to the table to talk to Susan, who invited her with some lemonade at hand.

“So. How was life with the humans? I know that you had a very selective diet. You look thinner than the last time I saw you. When was that? A year or two ago? It could have been three, but I don’t know,” said Susan, pouring a glass of pick lemonade for herself.

“It was fun. I admit, I probably would be better off in Japan where they have sushi on a daily basis, but I have fun in the Czech Republic. Lots of fields for Bodoleck to hide in when he can’t handle the thirst, but I have no problem, and I’m even going to school,” said Rosemary. She had loads to tell her half-sister.

“Really? I was wondering how you met a human. He’s quite nice. Never in my entire life have I been near a human that doesn’t wince when I take out my retractable poisonous sword, for loss of better words. I tell you, if I hadn’t spent most of my time before my first reincarnation, I don’t know where I would be,” said Susan. Rosemary was quietly sipping her lemonade, hardly paying attention to anything her half-sister was saying. Instead, she was watching Michael.

“Tell me. How much do you like him?” Susan asked.

“Oh, well, Bodoleck snores a lot, but otherwise he’s fine,” said Rosemary, still hardly paying attention.

“Not him. The human. Michael.”

“Oh. Well . . . he’s really nice and funny and we’ve only been dating for a few months now and . . .” said Rosemary, trying to give Susan a hint.

“Right. It’s that time in a relationship where you don’t want to talk about it at all. I’ve been there, of course I have. I’m married! Grandma and Grandpa have not been there, because they’re basically royalty. They don’t have to be. Anyway. Moving on . . .” said Susan. They started chatting like they hadn’t seen each other in 100 years while the boys finished up making Michael even more tired than when he got here.

Medeleck gave him a hard slap on the back saying, “Wow. You’re pretty good for a human. But if you were a football player, or a basketball or even baseball, you could of had a chance out there.”

“Yeah. Sure. Whatever,” said Michael as he sat down next to Rosemary. He finished the lemonade she handed him in one gulp, and then rested his head on her shoulder.

Medeleck started laughing and said, “Aww. Puppy love.”

“Shut up! Nobody asked you!” said Rosemary and Michael at the same time. This made Medeleck laugh harder, and Bodoleck eventually joined in. Susan stayed quiet, but soon she hit her husband on the back of his head.

“Ow! What did you do that for?” Medeleck asked.

“I hit you because you were laughing at my half-sister and her boyfriend. Now, Rosemary, I’m not blind. Even I can tell when you have a boyfriend. Besides, at least I had the decency to hold my tongue,” said Susan, hissing on the last three words while she glared at Bodoleck and Medeleck.

“Thanks, Susan. Where would I be without you? I don’t think I would be anywhere with only your husband. I’m suprised that I was able to live with his brother,” said Rosemary. She poured Michael another glass, but he was already asleep.

“I’ll carry him to one of the rooms,” said Rosemary. She lifted him up and took out her wings, flying to one of the open windows. Michael’s sweatshirt was on the floor. She was lucky that it was Michael’s room, because she wasn’t sure if she knew her way around the house anymore.

Rosemary set Michael on the bed. He wasn’t snoring anymore, but she was sure that he was asleep. The covers were already drown back. All she had to do was take his shoes off and put the covers over him.

Rosemary wasn’t sure what to do now. Bodoleck and Medeleck were bound to be laughing, and Susan couldn’t hold them off for long. So she decided, since she was still tired, to curl up on Michael’s bed with him. She eventually fell asleep, too. When Michael woke up and found Rosemary next to him, he smile and wrapped his arm around her.

Susan opened the door quietly and thought, ‘At least they are happy during a time of peace.’

Then she left them to their dreams.
