It was a dark night in Prague, Czechoslovakia. Mr. Monajelli was just closing up his shop, a small bookstore that also sold cookies on Friday afternoons, which was yesterday, the last day of school, and he ws still recovering from the large amount of children that had come that day. Then someone hit him. Hard, on the head. He passed out cold, and didn’t awake until the next morning.

He found himself blindfolded and tied up. He had no clue where he was, but he could tell that someone was there. He tried to move his face around, but it was impossible to get the rag off. He also tried to untie, the ropes, but it was no use.

“Who’s there, and what do you want with me?” Mr. Monajelli finally said after a half and hour of struggling. He heard footsteps coming towards him. Heels clicking on the floor. A woman.

“I don’t want anything from you,” said the woman. She took her long nails and swiped then across his face, being careful not to cut him.

“Then why am I here?” Mr. Monajelli asked.

“Well, I need you to do something for me,” the woman replied.

“I’m a thirty-eight year old man. What could I possibly be able to do for you? I don’t think I could anything besides sell books and cookies,” insisted Mr. Monajelli.

“But that’s where you’re wrong. I heard somewhere that you have an excellent memory. I want you to tell me if you’ve seen a girl. But not just any girl. She’s fourteen, has dark curly black hair, and brown eyes that have a hint of red in them.”

“Is she tall and has fair skin?” asked Mr. Monajelli.

The woman smiled, and then said, “Yes.”

“I’ve seen her. She came in my shop yesterday.”

“Thank you.” Mr. Monajelli felt the woman hit him hard on the head again, and then all he knew was darkness.
