Part XXV

A Chapter by Haunzwürthe

    BANG, BANG, BANG!!!!
"Mr. Jef'son, wake up!"  Sherry yelled from outside the apartment.  "Hurry up and open the door.  I have your lunch!"
Angus lay still on the couch, his head on the armrest, right arm and leg on the floor.  A line of drool had dried down the side of his face and formed a wet spot on the armrest, but he wasn't moving.
"Mr. Jef'son!!  Are you ok?  I'll break down this door if I have to!"  BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG!!!!
Angus let out a long snort and slowly opened his eyes.  "Naw wom'n, tellat boy I ain't got no use for no 'cyclepediar.  I'n n'arnt the booky type," he whispered still half asleep.  Sherry beat on the door once more and Angus finally came around, realizing where he was.  "Jess hold a minit, Miss Shurry," he answered, pulling himself off the couch. His joints cracked and he grunted to stand up.  He made his way over to the door and let Sherry in.  She burst through excited and aggravated at the same time.  She talked so fast Angus just stood at the door dumfounded
"Mr. Jef'son, I just don't know what to do with you today.  I come in this morning with your breakfast, that I see you didn't eat, and find you sprawled on the couch.  You wouldn't wake up so I had to check your pulse to make sure you hadn't went out to the garden.  Have you even had your coffee yet?  Don't worry about it, let me make you a pot."  She left for the kitchen and came back in to set out his food.  "Just how long ago did you wake up?"
    "Jess now, Miss Shur-"
"Land sakes Angus! You slept the whole morning away?  Haven't you been watching?"  Angus' mental self finally woke up and joined the conversation.
"Oh, you'n mean 'em al'ens.  Yeah, I'n seent 'em lass night when they'n took a looksee at Wa-kicky."
"Mr. Jef'son, you've been missing it all.  They've done flew over LA, the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, Mount Rushmore, and the Great Lakes towards Niagara.  The government's saying that they have a place in DC waiting for them and that means that they might fly near here to get there.  So sit right down and get yourself caught up and I'll get your coffee."  Angus sat back on the couch where he'd woken up not even 10 minutes earlier and turned on the TV.  He slowly began eating a chicken salad sandwich as WPHL flashed updated scenes across the screen.  It was the sight of the spacecraft, something that had been tied to imaginations for so long, actually being broadcast and witnessed by millions of people that had Angus so concentrated on the TV.  Sherry brought his coffee, sat it on the table, and sat beside him.  He didn't pay particular attention to what was being said, only catching phrases here and there.
    "...unknown where it's headed..."
    "...flights diverted or delayed..."
"...presidential invitation at the White House..."
    "...not following military escorts..."
    "...visiting world famous locations..."
    "...continuing to New York City..."
    "...first capitol of the US..."
He watched intently as more videos were shown of the spaceship flying quickly through the sky from various witnesses, interviews of what they had seen, and speculations from pundits and scientists about the purpose of the visit.  But still no mention of the boy.
"I'n wonder if they'n knows..." he thought aloud.
"What was that?" Sherry asked, missing the context.
"Oh, n'arnt anythin.  I'n jess talkin ta myself."
They watched the unfolding events until 2:14pm.  It was then that horns started blaring outside.  It was then that the police sirens began wailing.  It was then that Angus' coffee started trembling.  It was then that the two looked at each other and said at the same time, "Balcony."  For a man of over 80, Angus didn't waste any time getting off the couch.  In fact he beat Sherry to the sliding glass door.  He pulled back the blinds and his eyes widened.
    "What the hell..."
