Part XVIII

Part XVIII

A Chapter by Haunzwürthe

The glimpse of the unimaginable, the religiously impossible, the one thing that spawned imaginations of countless children, artists, and pop culture phenomenon across generations moved slowly past the space walker and his giant space Polaroid.  It was a spaceship.  Plain and simple.  No fancy paint scheme, ridiculous oblong shapes or other impractical, cinematic design features.  It was fairly rectangular in shape with clean lines and slow curves like an airliner.  The bridge nosed out in front of the ship atop four or five stories of mostly lighted windows.  Three large thrusters propelled the ship with dark blue flames.  Smaller thrusters along the top and bottom of the ship corrected the yaw and pitch of the craft.  In the final seconds of transmission, there appeared to be very alien beings looking out the windows.  In the age of DVR, a closer look revealed that midway back on the 3rd level were two beings, one decidedly alien, the other decidedly human.  They were waving.  Angus had no need to rewind; he knew what he was seeing.  That last 10 seconds had gotten him peering closely from the edge of the couch in his white undershirt and boxers.  The last second he gasped in realization and the shock threw him back into the couch where he gasped for air and his heart raced.  He had a death grip on the couch with his left hand, his shirt with the right.
