Jimmy the Deuce

Jimmy the Deuce

A Poem by Haunzwürthe
"

A rehashing of an old thought with nods to Fight Club and Drop Dead Fred.

"

The sun's going down and my house is a wreck

Old lady in my ear trying to put me in check

Should I waste the weekend just to call it a truce

So I dial up his digits and ask Jimmy the Deuce

'Cause he's a live fire cracker, he's never a slacker

The center of attention, he's a hell of an actor

You know who's at the door when he lets out a roar

Hanging out with him is never a chore

Sitting at the red light glaring at me

Wondering what I'm gonna do when it turns green

Should I sit tight or gun this caboose

So I look to my right and ask Jimmy the Deuce

'Cause he's a real go getter, he's never been better

He's a real cool cat even down to the letter

With his bright red mane, Hilfigers and chain

He rides a fine line between crazy and sane

The steamy little bartender gives me a wink

Says, we got everything but the kitchen sink

Should I take it easy or let it all loose

So I turn to my right and ask Jimmy the Deuce

'Cause he's no big stickler, never a picker

He really knows how to hold his beer and liquor

He's got real big paws and retractable claws

One little flick the ladies are droppin their jaws

Groovin at the club gonna give it a chance

Mamacita comes up and tries to get me to dance

Should I let her grind or give an excuse

So I shout a few words out to Jimmy the Deuce

'Cause he's a big time baller, tossing out dollars

He spits mad game with his swanky popped collar

He's a no frills flirt with his tail up her skirt

A social butterfly, a real extrovert

Passed out on my lawn with a hangover from hell

Old lady's done left as far as I could tell

Should I go to work or is there any use

But there is no sign of ol' Jimmy the Deuce

'Cause he's a one way street filled up with conceit

The king of his jungle with a throne as his seat

He's on his high horse, an ego of course

Takes what he wants, not a sign of remorse

Don't get me started why I'm hangin with him

He's not a bad guy, he just acts on a whim

Normally I'd be an introverted recluse

Until I look in the mirror and see Jimmy the Deuce

One of the first things I thought about when reading this was the old days of Beatnics, sitting around in old smoky clubs spouting out all kinds of poetry. It flows very smoothly, and I loved the surprise ending. It's Dr. Jeckle and Mr. Hyde.
