War of the TreesA Poem by Hatter at HeartNature takes its course. At the edge of a cliff Overlooking the sea Cascading green waves 'Neath a blue locust tree
Within grew a face Attached to a seed Til it burst forth to chase Til it decided to feed
It fed on the beasts That sat hungry below A man eating plant That continued to grow
It ate all that moved Such quick flighty things Another life expunged Another death that it brings
And up in the above From the world below Lived a new kind of life Which lived only in snow
It was similar in shape To the poisonous trees The branches strangely draped And it grew in crystalline
It extended most far Down the mountainside of East Granting life to the Earth Giving power to the beasts
Yielding strength to the brutes Proved a rewarding deed In destroying nature's fruit In stopping the feed
With the danger of death That was no longer to be The locust tree fled Right into the sea The new life had won Its pure roots could now spread Unaware were the beasts Of their imminent dread
Aroused then, a new threat Which came from above This time from ice Whose own poison was love... © 2013 Hatter at HeartAuthor's Note
