Chapter 1: An Unexpected Visitor

It’s not every day that a random translucent being appears in your room. And thus, when such a creature does manifest in your room, you would tend to believe you were insane or dreaming. As such, Max Ozwell was currently doing just that.

“So your just gonna ignore me then?” asked the being.

“No, but I certainly won’t be giving any credibility to your presence” replied max. “I have concluded that I am simply dreaming. Either that or slowly dying to carbon monoxide poisoning.”

“Ugh, what can I do to convince you this is real then?” Inquired the being.

“Hmmm well I don’t really know, there is no way to prove that this isn’t inside my head. “ replied max.

The being did something resembling a sigh then said, “well isn’t that true of everything? How can you be certain that anything is real if your just going to use that argument?”

“I suppose that is true, the only thing I can be sure of is my own sentience “ replied max, “very well, I’ll humor you but only because I know this is a dream and nothing bad can happen to me”

“Excellent” replied the being in a pleased manner, “Okay so long story short, I am the keeper of magic-.”

Max interrupted him, “yup definitely a dream”

“As I was saying, I protect, or rather protected the magic of this world obviously you don’t see the streets with mystical beasts and fantastical wizards. This is a rather unfortunate consequence of me doing a rather bad job of keeping the magic safe. There are 7 keys, each opens a ancient door to a mana rich environment filled with the type of that magic the key is specified too. How I lost them is not important but it resulted in them being spread through out the world and lost through the century’s. Each key can do a limited magic of their own and thus certain Ancient civilizations loved them and built temples for them such as the great pyramid of Giza and a few Myan temples.

Upon discovering their loss I figured I wouldn’t tamper with the keys and let the magic stay locked up in the doors. After all, something is a lot easier to guard if it no longer exists. But something has gone horribly terribly wrong.”

Max interrupted him again, “ooooh let me guess there’s a scary person who opened a evil dooor very scary”

The being sighed, and the responded with, ”your only half wrong, the portal of dark magic was opened, but not by some evil creature. At least I hope not. Either way a dark portal has been opened, luckily the portal needs some time to become stronger before anything can pass through it.”

“Let me guess I have to go on a quest to find all the keys to close the doors or something like that?” Replied max.

“Something along those lines yes, we need one key in particular, the key of light. Said the being

“Wait so I don’t have to find all 7?” Asked max.

“I was about to explain that before you rudely interrupted me. You need to find 6 keys, the light portal feeds off the others to remain open. Luckily I know where the 6 keys are. As magic keeper I have the ability to sense their location, except for the key of darkness as it would likely attempt to corrupt me if I had a link to it.” Said the being.

“Okay, two questions. One: how am I traversing the globe. And two, why can’t you get the keys yourself” asked max.

“Well this is why” the being said as he attempted to pick up my bedside lamp, only to have his fingers pass right through it. “And as for your transit I have a very small amount of magic energy left, just enough for a few teleports. One more thing, the teleports aren't very accurate so I’ll be dropping you in the air for each teleport, you’ll need this” the magic keeper then threw a parachute at max.

“So now is the part where I get dropped off in the middle of nowhere alone with no warning right?“ max barely managed to finish his statement before he found himself descending at an alarming rate toward the ground which was surrounded by a thick jungle.

Realizing he had a matter of seconds before becoming the newest dead object on the forest floor (which was not on his to do list for today) he quickly pulled the ring on the parachute whilst holding it in his hands, as he didn’t have time or the skill to put it on properly mid air.

A large force came over him as his acceleration slowed from: “help help help terminal velocity I’m gonna die!!!!!” To the much more manageable: “I’m a feather on the wind, this is neat”

When he was around halfway to the ground the magic keeper appeared beside him.

“Gee thanks for the warning” said Max with a heavy layer of sarcasm coating his words.

“Okay do you see that clearing down there?” Asked the magic keeper. “That’s your landing spot”

“Great, but where exactly are we?!” Asked max.

“Glad you asked! I have no idea!” Replied the time keeper. “I only know the general location of the keys, but given the appearance of those birds” he said whilst indicating toward a flock of Gouldian Finches I would presume we are somewhere in Mexico, There is also the Mayan temple peeking out of the forest down there further proving my assumption.

“I’m assuming we are going for the temple?” Asked max.

“Yes that assumption would be correct, I’m sensing the key of earth magic nearby.” Replied the magic keeper.

“Ok then. I guess now we get to float down to the surface in an awkward silence?” Inquired max

“Yup” Replied the magic keeper.
