Hero

Hero

A Poem by Hasan Hersi

When we're pushed too far
When we've been oppressed and humiliated below the usual bar
When the dragon in your belly is ready to explode
When the anger at them is so much that it seems to implode
Breath after breath, the mania starts to grow
And you ask yourself that despairing question how?
When the gates of courage and bravery are thrust ajar
And you feel the fire in your soul flare up like a star
You realize the hero is ready to fight
He's ready to be the bane of the shadow like the dawn's light.

I really love this poem! It's such an eloquent testament to finding your own place, your voice in this world. And, it has a great rhythm. I found, when I was reading it, that it seemed to naturally fall in places where the lines don't currently break, though. The rhythm was almost like a drum beat, falling thusly:

When we're pushed too far
When we've been oppressed and humiliated
below the usual bar
When the dragon in your belly
is ready to explode
When the anger at them is so much
that it seems to implode
Breath after breath,
the mania starts to grow
And you ask yourself
that despairing question how?
When the gates of courage and bravery
are thrust ajar
And you feel the fire in your soul
flare up like a star
You realize the hero
is ready to fight
He's ready to be the bane of the shadow
like the dawn's light.

Very inspirational poem. I used to write lyrics pretty frequently but I haven't in a long time, and this theme is very similar to the lyrics I used to write. Well done.
