A Conversation With My Femme Fatale

A Conversation With My Femme Fatale

A Poem by Charles Chukwuani

"I could take you to the brink of death
and you would still adore me",
she begins.

Her idea of foreplay.

"It's only human",
she moans,
her tattooed hand pulling on my hair.

"God flooded the entire world
so why do we not detest Him?",
she asks,
throwing her head back.

"Because He sent Jesus to save us,
so they say",
so she says.

"Because so long as you do not kill them,
people will love you if you save them."

"Put that in the book of Revelations."

I can't see but I'm sure,
she's smiling at her own bit of wit.

"I'm not saying I'm Jesus...",
she gasps, trailing off,
ironically, as she begins to ascend.

Time elapses;
perhaps,
three minutes?

"...He wasn't this sexy",
breaks the silence,
as she comes back to earth.

"So love me,"
her throaty voice concludes,
"even as I drown you."

And I look up
at her thin eyes looking down upon me
in condescending appraisal,
and I ask,
"Do I have a choice?"
