Black Holes

Black Holes

A Poem by Charles Chukwuani

I could do nothing to stop my once luminous heart,

from being drawn into you so strongly and torn apart,

whenever you walked by the sun seemed less bright,

the moon let out sighs in sheer awe of your sight,
the planets whispered of your coming and oh,

how they would shake!

For they knew you left naught behind in your wake.

The clouds hid the reflected sea in shame,

as it cried seemingly infinite tears to drown your dark flame,

the rainbows that followed also wailed in despair ,

overwhelmed by the sorrow that their beauty could not compare,

while the modern day Galileans looked deep into the sky,

searching for the swirling black masses where stars come to die,

if only they knew of the grand existence that is you,

then they would know that black holes exist here on Earth too.

The last four lines were stellar, no pun intended. The astronomical conceit and emotional climax made for a very dynamic poem. Well done, Charles.
