RecollectionsA Poem by Charles Chukwuani
Great times when remembered always seem to be a blur,
Yet painful times recollect in such excruciating detail, So I wonder, What does that say about us as humans, When we must learn through pain rather than pleasure, When sadness teaches far more than joy can endeavor, When great times are estimates but hurtful ones are an exact measure, So I wonder, What memories then do we truly treasure? The ones where we had our eyes closed and bodies filled with leisure, Or the ones we spent with both eyes open and sensing full displeasure? The ones where we barely remember what was said that made us feel better, Or the ones that burn so much we recollect the words down to the letter? I wonder.
