The Things They DoA Poem by Charles Chukwuani
They do horrible things.
They call you all sorts of names and scribble curses on your door, Cause they still think words don't hurt people.
They see you walking with a strut and want to put you on a crutch, Cause they're crippled and contagious about it. They infiltrate your dreams with the covertness of special ops, Cause they want you to live their nightmares. They want to be Webster and define everything that you are, Cause they can't operate outside societal definitions. They think that you must think how they think, Cause they don't think. They are the ones always ready to open their mouths and respond, Cause they never actually listen. They never answer questions with questions, Cause it's so much easier to not ask questions. They say s**t like 'You're trying so hard to be different', Cause they want to have something to label you as. They look at you with scared eyes and murmur as you pass, Cause they don't know how to not fear the unknown. They try to drown out your preaches with mainstream pop music screeches, Cause to them, John the Baptist is John the Savage. They are convinced that they know you better than you know yourself, Cause they don't know a single thing about themselves. Don't be like them. © 2013 Charles Chukwuani |
