The Garden of EdenA Poem by Charles ChukwuaniAn alternate telling of the old tale.
With luscious trees and flowers galore,
Clear blue lakes emanating serenity, Mother Nature's green Garden of Eden, Once open to animals and spirits alike for eternity. Yet Nature suffered loneliness in the vast expanse, And of the knowledge tree did she beg, A daughter, so grew a single apple on its branches, Nature's Eve, her newborn egg. The old tree warned Nature to be wary, For her young apple was quite wild and free, But Nature paid him no heed or mind, So full of joy and contentment was she. Virtuous Eve was loved by all Eden's inhabitants, For years they would laugh and sing and dance, But Eve's heart soon ached with womanly longing, Dreaming of a soul mate and true romance. Filled with lust and vile emotions, A cruel snake in Eden deviously appears, Seeking to partake of the garden's only apple, He used deceit to seduce Eve's virgin ears. How love can sadly be so blind, The eyes cannot stay open amidst its wind, Thus Eden's forbidden fruit did forsake her flesh, With reckless abandon, Eve had sinned. Rosy womb flowing with wicked venom, Having believed the lies the snake had sworn, Alas, so Mother Nature would come to find, Her once ripe apple now rotten and forlorn. In a dreadful anger and wrath beyond measure, For hell hath no fury like a woman scorned! Nature cast out the snake and its seeds borne by sin, And barricaded Eden forevermore with sharp thorns. Hence to thee do we truly and dearly cry,
Us, the poor banished children of Eve, Mourning and weeping in this valley of tears, Hoping for Nature's forgiveness and Eden's reprieve. © 2013 Charles Chukwuani |
