Longing

Longing

A Poem by Charles Chukwuani

I want to be so close to her
That when she breathes
My lungs contract
That when she thirsts
I drink in her stead
That when she smiles
I am unable to frown
Like a love struck circus clown

That when she sings
My heart becomes akin to the hills
And they come alive
That when she hurts
I am Simon of Cyrene
I'd carry her pains
Even just momentarily
That when her sanity tries to flee
And float away as if it were weightless
I become her gravity
