8: Cold FinaleA Chapter by Chris
I yawned as I laid there in bed, the mid morning sunlight shining in through the nearby window, breaking through the thin curtains that had been pulled over them. The quilt was pulled tightly to my shivering body. I didn't know why, but I had been extremely cold for the past couple hours, so cold that it was impossible for me to get warm enough to fall back asleep. I was still tired from staying up the better part of the night to work on the story I had written. It was about everything that had happened to my friends and I ever since this morning. My gaze went from the blank ceiling above to the nightstand beside my bed where the papers laid. The only thing I had left to do was add in the finishing touches. Then I heard a knocking on the door. I looked over, seeing Josh entering. “Guess what?” he said. “Your plane's here.” “Really?” I asked. Josh nodded, smiling a little as he sat down on the edge of the bed. He examined me for a moment. “You okay?” he asked. “Yeah, I'm just really cold,” I replied. “You look a little pale too.” I laughed a little. “I guess I ended up getting sick after all.” He nodded, chuckling. “Well, you better get on down to the lobby,” he said, standing up and walking towards the door. “Your friends are getting impatient. Better not keep them waiting too much longer.” I nodded. “Okay, I'll be down in a bit.” He left the room after that, and, almost reluctantly, I threw the covers off me, which only seemed to make me shiver even more. I looked at the papers on the nightstand for a moment before picking them up along with the pen that sat beside them. The ending was the only thing that was left.
And so there you have it, the ending to this story. I'm deciding to leave this here to give someone else something to read as they sit up here in this room and wait for their plane, just like my friends and I did—if there's even anyone left alive to read it. Although, as I'm writing this, I can't help but to feel a little strange. It feels like my sickness is getting worse, and the worry that has been in the back of my head since two nights ago is starting to come forward. I just hope I'm not turning into an
