Chapter Fifteen

A Chapter by Chris

That b*****d, he was going to make him pay. He was going to show him a thing or two about ignoring him for the past few weeks. He knew the little man w***e wanted to get back with him; he was just playing hard to get. Yeah, that was it. He was just trying to make everything that much more difficult for him. But he was going to show him. Outsmart him even, and show him that he was onto his little game.

Kyle walked down the street, flicking the lit cigarette in between his fingers to knock off the accumulation of ashes at the end of it. The fact that it was a Friday didn't really occur to him too much. Instead he was too preoccupied with one thing: trying to figure out how he could get Greg back. With the younger male avoiding him all the time, it became nearly impossible to ever get such a chance. However, Kyle wasn't going to give up. He was going to make Greg come back to him one way or another. Sure he was the one who ended the relationship with the younger male over the summer, but he changed his mind now. He wanted to get back with Greg again.

It wasn't much longer until Kyle reached his house. He stomped his cigarette out onto the cement walkway leading to the house before walking inside. Upon doing so, the blond saw his father laying on the decrepit couch, a bottle of whiskey in one hand that hung lazily off the couch while the other one held a lit cigarette. Not a word was exchanged between the two as Kyle crossed the small living room and turned into the messy kitchen. After walking through the litter of beer cans, whiskey bottles, and other various trash, Kyle reached the refrigerator and pulled out a can of beer from it. While opening it up, Kyle leaned against the nearby wall and looked out the window.

The house was rather quiet aside from the bit of noise coming from the television, and it had always been like that for the most part ever since Kyle's mother left. He could remember everything from before that time though. His parents got into fights rather frequently, which sometimes resulted in his mother getting a bruise or two – or maybe even a fat lip or swollen cheek – when it was over. It had bothered Kyle before when he first started witnessing it, which was when he was around six years old, but his father assured him that she deserved it. He said that women were only to be slaves to men, and that if they didn't do what they were told, then they needed to be punished. With that said, Kyle didn't think much of it afterwards, figuring his mother must have deserved all the minor beatings she got for not doing whatever it happened to be that his father asked of her. Sometimes he even belittled her like his father did since that seemed to be right thing to do. After all, his father did it, so it must have been okay.

But of course, later on down the road, the broad got the idea that she was too good for them and left one night while they were asleep. However, it was only about a day later when they received the news that his mother had driven off the road and crashed into a tree. Kyle wasn't too upset by it though, and just figured she had what was coming to her for trying to leave them. His father thought a little differently though. He started to blame him for his mother leaving in the first place. Kyle knew it wasn't his fault, and he told the old geezer that plenty of times, but he wouldn't listen to him regardless. His father stopped griping about it after a year or two though and appeared to have just forgotten about it altogether. Of course, they didn't talk much – only when it was necessary – but there weren't anymore angry vibes radiating off his father like there used to be.

Upon returning to the present, Kyle looked up towards the ceiling in thought as he tried to figure out what he was going to do about his current situation. It wasn't too long until he recalled something that happened earlier that day. He overheard Greg and Zach talking in the halls during school about how they were going to meet at the park about an hour after school let out.

When he remembered hearing this brief conversation though, Kyle's thoughts drifted towards Zach. He absolutely hated the b*****d, and he always did ever since the seventh grade. About a month before then – during the summer – Kyle was friends with Buck, Steve, and Nick, even though they never really acted that way towards him. It was during this time when the three decided to start a band. They had issues finding a drummer, even though Kyle had constantly reminded them that he was capable of playing the drums. It took them a while before they finally let him join the band though. He thought he was an awesome drummer, but of course the other three didn't agree.

It was at the beginning of the seventh grade when Zach came along. The boy had just moved into town and he ended up befriending Nick, Steve, and Buck. Kyle never really saw eye-to-eye with him though and it didn't take too long before they started disliking each other. Zach had even started to steal his friends away from him, making it hard for the blond to hang out with the people he was in a band with. To make matters worse, Zach even stole his position of being the drummer.

Of course, Kyle wasn't going to let the b*****d get away with doing something like that. He tried to do anything in his power to get back at Zach, which was usually vandalizing everything he could of the boy's. Zach didn't sit around and take it though, and ended up getting into many fights with the blond. After so many fights though, the two just left each other alone altogether as if they had forgotten that each other had existed.

But now Kyle was going to have his revenge, and he couldn't help but to smirk from it. He knew that Zach was just all a part of Greg's little game of playing hard to get. Greg knew that he hated Zach, and he thought that by exploiting this he would be able to make Kyle want to get back with him even more. Of course, it had worked, and the blond was willing to admit that. But now he couldn't wait to see the look on Zach's face when he ends up finding out about how Greg was just using him.

Kyle looked towards the clock that hung crookedly on the wall. It hadn't been an hour since school let out yet, but he figured that it would be best to head to the park now while there was time to spare. When he was about to walk towards the door though, Kyle thought of something before looking towards the kitchen counters. In case Greg wouldn't be willing to admit to the game he was trying to play, Kyle figured he would do a sort of game of his own, then that way Greg would have no choice but to get back together with him. Smirking at the thought of it, Kyle walked towards the kitchen counter and pulled out one of the knives from the wooden holster that all of them were in. After looking at the blade for a moment to make sure it was sharp enough, he carefully slipped it into his pocket to make sure it wouldn't cut the pocket – or anything else that happened to be in his pants. Once the knife was secure, Kyle left the house.

Several minutes later, the blond finally arrived at the park. He walked around, peering about for any signs of Zach or Greg. It didn't take long though for him to spot Greg sitting on a bench all by his lonesome. Afterwards, Kyle looked around a little more for any signs of Zach, but the male wasn't anywhere in sight. Perfect. Greg was completely alone. This would make everything so much easier for him. Besides, after they got back together, then both of them would be able to take part in crushing Zach in the hope that his relationship with the younger male was real instead of it just being Greg himself that did it.

Kyle slowly walked over towards the bench Greg was sitting on until he was standing directly behind him. He slowly placed a hand on the boy's shoulder and watched as Greg turned his head to look up at him. Greg shot off the bench afterwards and looked at Kyle as if he was the grim reaper. The blond chuckled a little.

“Hey, surprised to see me here?” he asked.

“Um, yeah, I guess you could say that,” Greg replied, his voice shaky a little as he glanced about him as if he was looking for something.

“There's something I want to tell you,” Kyle began as he walked around the bench so he could get closer to Greg, who only ended up stepping backwards. “I've been doing a lot of thinking for some time now, and I realized how much I love you. So I want to get back together again.”

“S-sorry, but I'm already going out with Zach,” Greg said a little quietly, glancing from one side to another as his fingers fidgeted below his waist.

Kyle wanted to smirk at how convincing Greg was playing this act. He almost sounded like he actually didn't want to get back together again, but Kyle knew better than that. He wasn't going to tell that to Greg though. No, he was going to get Greg to let go of this little guise by doing something else. Suppressing the urge to smirk so he could play his own role effectively, Kyle let his facial expressions sadden some as he let out a sigh and turned around halfway to look down towards the ground in a gloomy manner.

“I really thought we had a good relationship going on before though,” he said. “I know I shouldn't have dumped you, and I realize that now. I wouldn't be here asking to get back together with you again if I didn't.”

“T-that's nice and all, but my heart belongs to someone else right now,” Greg said, his voice trembling some.

Kyle looked at the Sophomore for a moment before looking back down towards the ground while letting out a sigh. “I know.” He shrugged a little. “It's just that life seems so hopeless now without you around, like there isn't even any purpose for me to live. But I won't bother you anymore. I can see that you don't want me.” He turned around so that his back was to Greg. “Maybe I should just kill myself. . . There isn't any reason for me to live anymore. . .”

The blond reached into his pocket and slowly pulled out the knife so that there was enough time for Greg to see it. Kyle brought it up to his wrist afterwards, putting the sharp side of the blade only millimeters away from his wrist.

         “No, stop!” Greg shouted.

The brown-haired male was next to Kyle a second later, grabbing onto the wrist of the hand that held the knife before pulling it away from the other one. Kyle was barely able to keep himself from smirking from this.

“But there isn't any reason for me to live anymore,” Kyle said in a sad manner while making sure he was portraying the emotions properly on his face. “It's just too hard to live without you in my life. If I can't have you, I just don't want to live anymore. . .”

Kyle looked towards Greg, sure of what would happen next. There was a few moments of hesitation though before Greg finally and slowly wrapped his arms around him.

“I want to get back together again,” Greg muttered into Kyle's chest emotionlessly.

The Junior hugged the male back a second later.

“I love you Greg,” he said with a small smirk on his face.

He did it. He had won.

Realistic. The "take-me-back-or-I'll-kill-myself" routine. Your portrayal of Greg as being naive as well as being physically and mentally weak is very well done, especially with Greg easily falling for Kyle's game. It's obvious Kyle doesn't love Greg, but he won't admit it to himself.
