Chapter SixA Chapter by Chris
The next few days went by at a steady pace for Greg. During that time he had heard of a party that was being held at someone's house on Friday. Andrew, Heather, Sarah, and him planned on going to it. All of them were excited and were looking forward to going. When the time for the party rolled around the corner, Greg and his friends headed down the street to the house at which it was being held. The sun was just about finished disappearing below the western horizon and it was rather quiet out around town, or at least until they neared the large, ornate two-story house. There were cars parked in the driveway and on the side of the road in front of the house while others – like Greg, Heather, Andrew, and Sarah – had just simply walked to the party. Several teenagers loitered around the somewhat large front yard, talking and laughing, while music could be heard playing from within the house. Greg and his friends didn't bother standing around outside, but instead went inside where the majority of the people were. People just stood around and conversed, which was practically drowned out by the music that was being blasted from the large stereo, while others danced and joked around. The four friends didn't partake in the dancing, but instead stood off to the side talking a little, either with each other or other people who happened to walk over. “O-M-G, something really embarrassing happened to me today in English class,” said Heather somewhat dramatically. “What?” asked Sarah. Greg zoned out on the conversation as he looked around a little. Zach and him had talked about the party earlier that day and he told him that he would be coming to the party too. There hadn't been any signs of him yet though. Upon realizing that he was thinking about him though, Greg tried to let go of the thoughts. Zach wasn't like that. He had been going out with Lisa. But of course it wasn't really a stable one. Maybe that could mean something? Even if that was the case though, Greg felt he wasn't ready for another relationship anyway. He didn't want to take a chance of the same thing happening again. It would cause too much pain and misery for him. He was just about to turn back to resume talking to the others when someone caught his eye. Kyle was standing not too far away, talking to a guy who walked away from him a couple seconds later. Greg mentally cursed at this, hoping and praying that the Junior wouldn't end up walking over here. Unfortunately, when he was just about to look away, he made eye contact with Kyle. He saw the wave, but didn't wave back as he looked towards his friends while also keeping watch over the blond from the corner of his eye. When he saw him walking towards them, Greg turned around and started to walk towards the door. “Where you going Greg?” he heard Heather ask. “Bathroom,” Greg quickly replied as he almost hustled towards the door. “Okay. . .” Heather murmured as all three of them watched the front door close behind the Sophomore boy. “Hey Kyle!” Sarah said with a smile as she looked towards the male. “Hey,” Kyle said as he passed the three without a moment's glance.
Upon getting outside, Greg quickly ran down the wooden porch steps. He looked towards the front door, which was still closed when he suddenly felt himself being grabbed by the arms. The brown-haired boy stopped in his tracks and looked straight ahead to see Zach standing right in front of him. “Be careful where you're going,” advised Zach with a faint smile as he relinquished Greg's arms. “You almost ran into me.” Greg didn't say anything as he looked back towards the door to see it beginning to open. He felt his heart skip a beat. “Sorry, can't talk,” Greg quickly replied before jogging off around the house. Zach watched him for a second, a little puzzled, before shrugging it off and walking towards the porch where him and Kyle met. “Have you seen a guy with brown hair running around here?” Kyle asked Zach, a small hint of anger in his voice and eyes. “Maybe I have, maybe I haven't,” Zach answered, giving something of a cold smirk. “Thanks for the help,” Kyle murmured sarcastically as he walked past Zach before running off in search of Greg. "Prick," mumbled Zach before walking up the steps.
About an hour passed and Sarah came to get him to tell him that they should probably leave now. Greg was a little relieved to hear this, but at the same time a little disappointed. He had spent the majority of the time trying to keep away from Kyle. There were a few times here and there when he had a chance to talk to a few people, but it only lasted for about a minute at most until Kyle spotted him. Sarah and Greg slowly walked down the side of the dark, silent road. Andrew and Heather had parted with them just a couple minutes ago when they reached their houses, and so now the two were alone. “So did you have fun?” asked Sarah. “Yeah,” Greg lied. “What were you doing the whole time?” The Sophomore male shrugged.“Just talking with people.” Well, it was somewhat true. “Kyle told us that he was looking for you. Did you ever talk to him?” “No.” “You probably should whenever you get the chance. Maybe he wants to get back together with you?” Greg didn't answer. “You two made a great couple when you went out. You should definitely go out with him again if you ever get the chance.” Greg still didn't respond and, to his relief, Sarah dropped the topic. They started to talk about other things until Sarah parted with him when they reached her house. Greg walked down the street a little further until he finally came to his house. He headed on inside, rather glad that the day was over. © 2009 ChrisAuthor's Note
