![]() Chapter 8: RevengeA Chapter by Chris
Lucifer woke up somewhat early in the morning the following day. He slowly sat up and looked around the area a little. His eyes then widened a tad when he noticed that Haven wasn't anywhere in sight. He stood up and looked around a little more as his heartbeat picked up a wee bit. Haven never said anything about him doing something wrong. The boy promised him that he would stick with him unless he stole or killed, and he hadn't done either of the two ever since they made that deal. The dark-haired male let out a sigh as he tried to calm himself down. Maybe Haven just went off to find food? That had to be it. But why would he go somewhere else to look for it when there was a blueberry bush just a couple yards away? Maybe it was just because he didn't want to eat blueberries again? Hopefully that was it. Either way, Lucifer decided he would wait for a few minutes to see if Haven would return. However, about five minutes passed and there was still no sign of Haven. The muscular man got a little worried. Did Haven really run off to leave him alone? Or maybe something bad happened to him? Deciding that he wasn't going to wait there any longer, Lucifer stood up to get ready to search for the brown-haired boy. It was then when Lucifer heard the rustling of bushes just a couple feet away from where he stood. A smile swept onto his face as hope began to fill him. He turned his head to look in the direction the sound came from and the smile slowly faded. It wasn't Haven. It was Marcus. Anger then slowly started to show on Lucifer's face. “What did you do with Haven?” inquired Lucifer, the anger in his voice too. “What ever made you think I did something with him, hm?” asked Marcus, a small smirk on his face. “You bloody b*****d!” snapped Lucifer. “Where is he?” “How should I know? I never did anything with him.” “You're lying!” “Does it really matter if I am? You should be more worried about what's going to happen to you instead of what's going to become of your friend.” “You b*****d!” yelled Lucifer as he charged towards Marcus, who simply unsheathed his sword and stuck it out in front of him with his arm outstretched. Lucifer stopped in his tracks and eyed the pointed end of the blade before looking at Marcus. “Did you forget that I had a weapon?” Marcus questioned, the smirk unwavering. The mercenary quickly stepped forward before swinging his sword at Lucifer, who quickly jumped backwards to avoid it. “I don't need a weapon to kill you!” snapped Lucifer. Suddenly, a few more men popped out of hiding and came into the clearing to stand in front of Marcus, their swords drawn for combat. “But you'll need to get through them first if you want to do that,” replied Marcus. Two of the mercenaries quickly charged forward towards Lucifer. When the faster one reached the criminal, he made a horizontal slash at him. Lucifer quickly dropped to the ground and sweep kicked him. Before he could land on the ground, the dark-haired man quickly kicked the mercenary in the gut to cause him to fly backwards, losing the grip on his sword as he did so. Lucifer quickly grabbed the hilt of the blade while it was still in midair before using the weapon to block the other man's sword. He pushed the mercenary backwards while he stood up to make him lose his balance. Lucifer sliced through the mercenary's torso a couple times before kicking him in the rib cage, causing him to fly to the side a few feet. He didn't plan on killing the mercenaries because he knew Haven wouldn't be pleased with him, but he wanted to at least try to injure them so they would maybe think twice about trying to attack him. Lucifer began to charge towards the other mercenaries. The one that was weaponless scrambled to his feet and ran way so he wouldn't get hurt while the remaining two quickly tried to swing their swords at Lucifer when he closed in the distance between them. The spiky-haired man shifted to the side to avoid one of them while blocking the other one. He then quickly got to the side of one of them before kicking them with enough force to make them stumble into the other one. Right after this, Marcus quickly stepped forward and tried to slash at Lucifer, who blocked it with his sword. The brown-haired man made a few more quick slashes, which were dodged by their target. When the sword was swung for the fifth time, Lucifer quickly ducked underneath it before trying to slash at Marcus's stomach. The mercenary quickly stepped backwards, and, when Lucifer's slash was almost complete, Marcus quickly stepped forward and sent the hilt of his blade crashing down on the man's head. Lucifer completely collapsed to the ground shortly afterwards, unconscious.
Lucifer moaned as he slowly drifted back into consciousness. His head was pounding from the harsh blow it received some time ago and the dark-haired man grimaced a little from it. He slowly opened his eyes, but there wasn't even anything to see because of how dark it was. Lucifer could feel that there were shackles around his wrists and ankles. His arms were completely outstretched on either side of him by the chains that were attached to something to the left and right of him. His legs were also spread out a little ways, but enough where he had enough stability to stand without the help from the chains. A couple seconds later, Lucifer heard footfalls on a wooden floor from above. He looked up to see an opening of a hatch on the ceiling and a stream of light immediately cascaded down into the room. It gave just enough light for Lucifer to see that he was in some stone chamber and there were cement posts on either side of him, which the chains were attached to. Marcus, Ace, and a couple mercenaries descended a ladder that was put down in the chamber. When they got down, they walked over towards Lucifer, who noticed that Ace was holding a whip and the mercenaries were holding wooden clubs. Marcus stepped forward and looked Lucifer in the eye. “You thought you could beat me, didn't you?” asked Marcus, a smirk forming on his thin lips. “You only got lucky those past couple times. But now you have finally failed. And I'm sure you can guess what's going to come.” Marcus chuckled a little grimly before giving a nod to each of the mercenaries. They stepped forward and brought their clubs crashing down on Lucifer, who managed to hold in a grunt of pain. The mercenaries didn't stop though, but instead continued the clubbing. Lucifer continued to refrain from making any audible signs of pain, not wanting to feed Marcus's satisfaction. About five minutes passed and the clubs continued to fall on him. The urge to make some kind of sound of pain increased, but Lucifer prevented anything from escaping his tightly sealed lips. His head was bowed as the beating continued though and he grimaced every time he suffered a hit. His arms and back – the two places where the clubbing was mainly centered – began to ache almost tremendously from the beating they received. “Is this really a manly way to fight someone Marcus?” Lucifer questioned, pausing every time he was hit by a club to keep himself from grunting out in pain. “Maybe it isn't, but I don't give a damn,” replied Marcus, the smirk unfaltering. “I'm just letting you experience the hell all of us had to go through in that bloody jail while you ran like a bloody coward!” He chuckled a little. “And revenge sure is sweet.” “Go ahead, beat me all you want,” said Lucifer as he mustered up enough strength to lift his head to look at his old friend, a hint of anger in his eyes. “It'll just show how much of a coward you really are!” Marcus punched him in the side of the face. “You are in no position to be throwing around insults like that,” Marcus told him coldly. “If I were you, I'd shut your bloody mouth before your tongue is cut out.” He then looked towards the mercenaries. “Now, enough with the clubs. Let's use the whip.” Marcus looked towards Ace, who nodded. The mercenaries walked back to stand behind Marcus before Ace began to walk over to get behind Lucifer. “So you're in on this too, huh?” Lucifer asked Ace when he was about to go around one of the cement posts. “Surprised?” replied Ace before standing about a few feet behind Lucifer. Lucifer didn't say anything else. The crack of the whip was heard and it struck Lucifer's back. He let his head drop as he grimaced from the immense pain, barely able to prevent himself from yelling out in pain. The criminal continued to be whipped, the pain becoming a bit more unbearable with every lash of the whip. Regardless of this, he continued to keep his mouth shut. A few minutes passed and Lucifer's back was riddled with numerous wounds, which oozed blood as the whip continued to be used on him. After a few more times, a grunt of pain was forced out of Lucifer's mouth. Marcus made a dark grin at the sound of it. Ace continued with the whip and Lucifer was soon forced to yell out in pain. The volume of the yells gradually increased every few seconds until Lucifer became so weak that he wasn't able to support himself on his feet any longer. However, the chains prevented Lucifer from collapsing to his knees. “Have you had enough yet?” Marcus asked, the grin still plastered on his face. Lucifer didn't say anything, but instead weakly yelled out in pain as the whip crashed down onto his back once more. “If you want it to stop, all you have to do is beg for it,” said Marcus. “I'll never beg to someone like you,” Lucifer said weakly. “Very well then. Continue Ace.” Ace nodded and did as he was told. A couple minutes passed and Marcus soon commanded Ace to cease the whipping. Lucifer just remained limp with the chains supporting him, a little too weak to stand on his own. “Well, I think that's enough fun for now,” said Marcus. “Come, let us leave him alone for a while.” “You b*****d,” muttered Lucifer, unable to speak any louder. “Haven will come and help me, just wait and see.” “Oh, do you really think that?” asked Marcus as he stopped at the foot of the ladder, the others already all the way up it. “Can you really think something like that when someone ran off on you like he did?” “You're wrong. He would never do something like that. He promised me he wouldn't.” “Oh, then why did I see him running away while you were asleep?” Lucifer's eyes widened a little. “No, you're lying,” Lucifer weakly said a couple seconds later, the unsureness in his voice. “You just have to be.” “But I'm not. He ran away. He doesn't give a bloody damn about you. He only cares about himself. Don't even bother thinking he's going to save you, because you're only wasting your time.” Marcus ascended the ladder before it was brought up out of the chamber. Afterwards, the hatch was closed, the darkness consuming the criminal once more. Lucifer's heartbeat picked up a little as the fact that he was now alone became known to him. However, he tried to calm himself down, trying to tell himself that Haven was going to save him. Or would he? © 2008 ChrisAuthor's Note
