Chapter 5: FunA Chapter by Chris
Haven was the first one to wake up the following morning. When his eyes opened, the first thing that they fell on was the muscular chest that was in front of his face. An arm was wrapped around the brown-haired boy and he could hear the calm breathing of the older male, signifying that he still must have been asleep. Haven's cheeks turned a light shade of pink, but he didn't pull away like he had done ever other time Lucifer got too close to him. He did consider scooting away from Lucifer though, but he told himself that staying next to him would help to keep him warm, denying the true reason behind this decision. The younger male scooted a tad bit closer towards Lucifer—for more warmth, Haven thought—until his face was just about a centimeter or two away from the taller male's chest. As he laid there, Haven started to reflect on the past few days. When him and Lucifer first started this tread to the south, Haven didn't like the criminal, but it was mostly because of the fact that he was a criminal. Upon realizing who he freed, he thought that Lucifer would be a cruel, depraved person. However, the dark-haired man didn't seem to be that way. Maybe Lucifer wasn't really that bad of a person after all? Suddenly, Haven felt a hand clamp onto his butt. His eyes widened in surprise as he naturally jerked his head backwards a little. Upon doing this though, the brown-haired boy felt a pair of lips collide with his forehead. Haven almost instantly scooted away from Lucifer until his back was pressed against the cave wall. “You b*****d!” yelled Haven a bit furiously. Lucifer smirked at the shorter male for a few seconds before laughing. “W-what's so funny?” questioned Haven, his voice barely showing any anger than what it had moments ago. “Your face was as red as a beet,” replied Lucifer, chuckling some. “That's because I got angry at you for trying to pull something like that!” snapped Haven defensively. “Sorry, I thought you'd like it.” “Why the hell do you think I would like you doing something like that?!” “Hey, you were the one who was scootin' closer to me.” “I was cold!” Lucifer chuckled a little more. “Alright, whatever you say.” The two dropped the discussion after that. Both of them looked towards the outside of the cave to see that the rain had passed and that the sun was shining brightly through the barrier of leaves and branches that made up the forest's canopy. Since there was really no reason for them to stay where they were any longer, they almost quickly resumed their travels from the previous night. To their relief, they finally made it out of the forest, but it wasn't until the sun was close to setting. They were now walking through a large field and they carefully surveyed their surroundings to make sure there weren't any people nearby that could possibly be bounty hunters or mercenaries. Fortunately, there wasn't a single other person in sight. The two then looked ahead to see a town that sat in the southern horizon. “Hey, maybe we should stop there for a little bit,” said Lucifer. “But you might be recognized,” replied Haven. “Don't worry, we're closer to reachin' the south, so this town barely even knows who I am,” the muscular man assured the boy. “Besides, it wouldn't hurt for us to take a break from this walkin' and have a little fun, would it?” “I don't know. . .” “We won't be there long; we'll only stay for a couple hours. I'm sure you could probably use a little fun anyway since that city's so strict.” “I'm not even sure if I want to know what your kind of fun is.” “You'll love it, trust me.” “Well, I guess it wouldn't hurt to stay just for a little bit.” “Alright! I knew you'd see it my way.” After walking through the field for a few minutes, they finally reached the small town. There weren't too many people out on the streets with the sun getting ready to end its shift for the day, giving a bit of peace and quiet to the place. As they looked around, it was then when Haven realized something. “Wait a minute, how do you expect us to have any fun anyway?” he questioned the older male. “We don't even have a single gold coin on us.” “Oh yeah, I guess I kinda forgot about that,” said Lucifer. “But have no fear! I'll take care of that problem right away!” Lucifer looked around before spotting a man who looked like he'd have quite a bit of money on him. Thinking he would be a good target, the black-haired man was about to walk over and pickpocket him, but before he was able to, Haven grabbed onto his arm. “Don't even think about it,” he told the spiky-haired male. “I'm not going sit here and allow you to steal someone else's money.” “Fine,” replied Lucifer. “Let's keep walkin' around though. There's bound to be somethin' we can do.” Haven just shrugged as he let his hand fall to his side. They resumed walking the streets, looking around the somewhat quiet town in search of something they could do that might fit into their budget. About a couple minutes later, they soon neared a pub and the small smile on Lucifer's face widened a wee bit. “Hey, let's go in here and get a drink!” said Lucifer as he turned and started walking towards the pub. “But we don't have any money,” Haven tried to remind him. “Don't worry about it, I know the owner,” Lucifer said back to him. “He usually always gets me my drinks for free.” Haven sighed softly and shrugged before following the older male into the pub. There were quite a lot of people there drinking rum and chatting; it was much louder in there compared to the streets outside. As they walked through the somewhat crowded building to make their way to the bar, Lucifer bumped into someone. The dark-haired man apologized for his clumsiness before him and Haven soon reached the bar. “Well whaddaya know,” the pub owner said as he walked over to the two as they took a seat on two vacant stools. “Didn't expect to be seeing you anytime soon Lucifer.” “Hey, I told you I'd come back sometime soon, didn't I?” asked Lucifer, smiling. “Yep, ya sure did. Hey, how 'bout I get you a drink. Have whatever ya want, it'll be on the house.” “I'll have the usual.” “Alrighty then, and how 'bout your friend here?” “I'll just have water,” replied Haven. The pub owner blinked a couple times before looking at Lucifer with a puzzled look on his face. Lucifer shrugged before saying, “He's new at this kinda stuff.” The owner nodded before going to get the drinks. Lucifer watched him for a moment before looking at Haven. “How's come you didn't get somethin' else?” he asked. “Because if I ended up getting drunk you'd probably try to get in my pants,” mumbled Haven. Lucifer just shrugged. They were given their drinks and neither of the two said a word as they took a sip out of their respective mugs. Everyone else around them continued to talk, some of them swaying from one side to the other from the effects of their beverages. It wasn't too much longer until something being smashed was heard. Haven instantly looked to see what was happening and Lucifer did the same, but at a slower pace. A couple guys in the back had smashed a table as they started to fight. A lot of the other men in the bar roared with laughter as they watched the ongoing brawl before a few others started to join the fray too. Starting to feel uncomfortable with this, Haven got up and started to weave his way through the people to get to the exit. Lucifer saw this and immediately started to follow him. “Somethin' wrong?” the black-haired man asked when they were finally outside. “I don't really feel comfortable being in there with that senseless violence,” Haven answered before they watched a wooden chair fly out of a window and onto the street nearby. “Alright, we'll try somethin' else then,” Lucifer said. He looked up towards the orange sky in thought for a moment before looking back at Haven as he got an idea. “How about we go gambling? I bet we can find a good place somewhere around here.” “Gambling's illegal up here in the north,” muttered the brown-haired boy. “Besides, you don't have any money anyway, so how do you expect to do something like that?” “We didn't have any money before, but now we do,” said Lucifer as he pulled a purse out of his pocket, the large sum of coins jingling within as he did so. “I got it from that guy I bumped into.” Haven was a bit angry and disappointed in Lucifer after hearing this. However, he didn't bother trying to preach about how he shouldn't be stealing because he had a feeling he probably wouldn't even listen to him. “Just go have fun by yourself,” Haven said a bit angrily as he turned around and began walking off. “Fine, I will then!” said Lucifer as he abruptly turned into the opposite direction, trying to act angry. He glanced back towards Haven to see if he would maybe cave in and reconsider about joining him, but the brown-haired boy continued to walk without a glance behind him. Lucifer sighed as he just slowly began to walk in search of somewhere he could maybe gamble. Haven walked around for a little while longer before sitting down underneath a small tree that stood to the side of the street. He sighed as he looked down towards the ground. Perhaps he was wrong. Maybe Lucifer really was a bad person after all?
Lucifer walked through the street with his gaze set on the ground, forgetting about trying to find somewhere he could maybe gamble. He was hoping that he could maybe get Haven to have a little fun with him. All they had really been doing so far during this entire time is walk. However, it seemed that the brown-haired boy wasn't really willing to try to have any fun. But of course, he never did bother to think of asking Haven if he maybe had anything in mind. Lucifer slowed to a stop as he thought it through for a couple moments. Finally coming to the decision that he would give it one last shot by asking Haven if there was something special he wanted to do, Lucifer was about to walk off in search of the boy when he heard someone shout, “Hey, it's him! It's Lucifer! Hurry and get him before he can escape!” Lucifer looked down the street to see a group of cops running towards him. He was actually a bit surprised to see this because he didn't expect anyone in the town to recognize him as one of the greatest criminals known to the north. Lucifer didn't bother pondering over how they knew of him though as he started to run down the street in the opposite direction. However, during this time, he caught notice of a few wanted posters with his face on it. It was then when he realized that the word must've spread all across the north in hopes that he would maybe be recaptured.
Haven walked through the quiet streets, only a small sliver of the sun showing over the western horizon. He looked towards the sky in thought, or at least until he snapped back into reality by the sounds of shouting. The brown-haired boy looked around before determining the direction from which the shouting came. After figuring out that it was around the corner far down the street, he figured he would go see what was happening, almost sure of what he was about to find.
Lucifer was forced to stop in his tracks as another group of cops blocked his path. He looked around at the ten men, who all quickly closed in on him. One of them tried to swing their swords at the criminal, who sidestepped it before slamming an elbow into their side. The cop was knocked away from the force before a few more cops tried to attack. Lucifer stepped from side to side accordingly to evade the numerous slashes. The spiky-haired man soon came to the sword the first cop had dropped when he was knocked to the side. He quickly picked it up before beginning to block the slashes while also dodging them whenever they slipped past the sword. About a few seconds later, Lucifer noticed a cop raising a sword above his head from behind. Out of natural reaction, Lucifer quickly spun around before thrusting the sword towards the cop. Haven had turned the corner just in time to see the blade impale the cop's chest. He instantly froze in his tracks upon witnessing this as his eyes widened. After removing the blade, Lucifer glanced to see the shocked look on Haven's face as he realized what he had just done. Haven gave a small shake of his head before turning around to run off. The older male dropped the sword and quickly gave chase, just barely missing the blades of the other cops. The brown-haired boy had continued to run until he finally came to a forest that was just a ways south of the town. By the time he reached it, Haven wasn't able to run anymore and so he had no choice but to stop to catch his breath, which gave Lucifer plenty of time to catch up the rest of the way. “Don't even say anything!” snapped Haven as he panted. “But I can explain!” said Lucifer. “I don't want to hear it!” yelled Haven furiously as he turned around to look at the older male. “You killed someone!” “But—” “I told you to shut up!” Haven paused as he shook his head in disappointment while trying to gather his thoughts. “You know what, just forget it! You can just go to the docks on your own! I'm not going to stick around with someone like you anymore!” “Haven, please!” Haven didn't say anything else as he turned around and broke into another run. Lucifer tried to chase after him, but he ended up losing sight of him after they passed through a somewhat large thicket of vines. The muscular man looked around as he stood where he was, but he couldn't find any traces of Haven. A saddened looked came on Lucifer's face upon realizing what he hated the most, and a heavy sigh escaped his mouth. He turned around before slowly walking back through the thicket. © 2008 ChrisAuthor's Note
