Chapter 13: Gory Revenge

Chapter 13: Gory Revenge

A Chapter by Chris

Skylar was woken up sometime real early in the morning. It would be about two or three hours before the sun would begin rising above the eastern horizon. Spike went to sleep without another word, leaving the blond to keep watch for the rest of the night. Skylar sat quietly underneath a fairly large oak as he looked around their surroundings every so often to make sure nothing would attack them.

About an hour passed and Skylar hadn't noticed anything so far. However, when he turned his head to look to the left, he saw someone rocketing towards him. Right when the person landed on the ground, he clasped his hand over the boy's mouth before lifting him up by the head and leaping out of the area. When they were clear out of it, the person threw Skylar towards a tree and the blond crashed into it before falling onto the ground. Skylar quickly got to his feet right afterwards to see that the person who had attacked him was Gore.

“I have to admit, I didn't expect either of you to be any good at fighting the last time we fought,” said Gore as he took a step towards Skylar, the familiar cold voice sending a small chill down the youth's spine. “I was foolish last time, but this time I'll be sure not to go so easy on you.”

“Heh, you still won't be able to beat me,” Skylar said with a smirk on his face.

However, the young warrior was wrong. He looked towards Gore and right when he did, fear instantly consumed him until he was completely paralyzed from it. Skylar felt as though he was looking at Death himself. A wide smirk came on Gore's face as he continued to stare at Skylar so that panic would continue to hold him in place.

Gore now held his hand a little ways from his side. He concentrated for a second before a blood red aura emitted from it. The smirk slowly turned into a grin as he slowly approached Skylar. The blond wanted to run, but the fear had practically chained him to where he stood. Not even a single muscle in his body twitched. Gore closed in a couple moments later and he slammed the palm of his hand into Skylar's chest. Skylar let out a grunt of pain as he fell to his knees with his hand clutching where the palm had struck. Seconds later he ended up coughing up about two ounces of blood. Before Skylar could stand back up, Gore kicked him in the face and sent him crashing into a tree.

Skylar slowly rose to his feet, his breathing reduced to pants and his face covered in a little blood. A bit more of the red liquid was coughed up before Skylar tried to use Angel Feathers. However, before he was able to, Gore closed in on him and tried for a thrust to the stomach. Skylar stopped building up for the spell and sidestepped the stab before unsheathing his sword to attempt a slash. It was blocked and right when it was, Gore used his free hand to send a blast of dark energy at Skylar. The blast hit the boy square in the chest and it slammed him into the tree with enough force to crack the trunk of it. Before the boy could fall to the ground, Gore sent a harsh knee to his gut. Skylar gasped in pain as more flecks of blood shot out of his mouth. He collapsed to his knees, clutching his stomach.

Before Skylar was able to get back on his feet again, Gore slashed at him a few times with his katana. Blood splattered everywhere with each slash that cut through the skin. Good-sized gashes were left on Skylar's arms and torso, but none of them were deep enough to cause any quick deaths. Finally mustering up the strength to stand, Skylar leaped up onto his feet and quickly tried to slash at Gore's head, but Blade's follower was quick enough to jump backwards to avoid it.

Right when his feet touched the ground, Gore ran the palm of his free hand over the blade of his weapon, giving it a small cut. He soon held the now bleeding palm out and blood needles shot out of it. More needles were also added to this from the blood scattered about the area from Skylar. The blond quickly moved to the side to avoid them though, but the needles changed course in midair. This time they struck him, but none came close to any vital organs.

Skylar's breathing was reduced to quicker pants as more blood was coughed up and into a small puddle on the ground. He wasn't sure what attack that was that Gore had used on him earlier, but he knew that because of it he probably wouldn't be able to keep this fight up too much longer. His face soon contorted into a small grimace as the needles were dislodged from his skin. They quickly combined to form a fairly big, sharp spike, which was shot towards Skylar's heart. The youth was able to move out of the way to evade it though. However, as soon as he did, Gore closed in and slashed at him a couple times with his sword. Afterwards, he shot a somewhat big dark energy blast at his prey, who was hit by it and sent flying backwards. Skylar crashed into a tree, and this time it was with enough force to send it crashing to the forest floor.

Spike was immediately awakened by the tree falling. He shot up into a sitting position and quickly looked around, his eyes wide and his breathing a little fast from being startled out of his sleep. The brilliant warrior noticed that Skylar wasn't there and this greatly concerned him. He quickly got to his feet and went off to search for his comrade. Seconds later, he came upon the area where Gore and Skylar had been fighting. The blond was laying on the ground unconscious with Gore slowly walking towards him. Blade's follower stopped and raised his sword, about to impale the unconscious boy.

“NO!” Spike shouted at the top of his lungs as he rushed in. It was just enough to temporarily distract Gore. However, upon looking into the enemy's eyes, Spike was paralyzed by fear.

“Ah, so you have come to join the fight now, huh?” Gore said, smirking as he fully turned to face his opponent. “Such a foolish mistake.”

Temporarily forgetting about the unconscious blond, Gore took a couple steps forward before breaking into a sprint towards Spike. Unlike Skylar though, the brilliant warrior wasn't completely overcome by the fear. Spike was far too worried about his comrade to care about his own life at the moment. Right when Gore was within range, Spike had unsheathed one of his twin blades, which Gore had ran right into . The last sound that came from Gore was a gasp of pain. After the blade was pulled out, Blade's disciple fell to the forest floor, dead.

yeah, i agree with Schofield. Gore's death was very anticlimactic, especially if he's second in command.

What a cheap death for such a powerful adversary. I would urge you to re-write it so it's more epic.
