Chapter 35

Chapter 35

A Chapter by Chris

Sean was walking down a snow-covered street. A lone figure stood all the way down at the end of it. Due to the huge distance between them, he wasn't able to tell who it was, but it did not concern him in the slightest. He continued forth and it wasn't long until the figure started to walk towards him.

As the two got closer, Sean was able to see who the person was. He was quite surprised to see that it was Jim. There was no greeting exchanged between them as they inched closer towards one another. Jim then stopped just a couple feet away from Sean, removed a gun from his pocket, and shot him.

A gasp escaped Alex's mouth as he shot up into a sitting position on his bed. His breathing was rapid and his face was covered in sweat. Those hazel hues of his darted around the room before soon resting on Sean, who slowly sat up on the bed.

“What's wrong...?” he asked a little groggily.

An answer wasn't given right away. Instead Alex sighed a heavy sigh of relief as his once tense muscles relaxed some.

“Just had a nightmare, that's all,” Alex said.

“Oh,” Sean replied before giving a yawn.

They both looked towards the digital clock on the nightstand, which said that it was ten o'clock in the morning.

“Guess we should get up now,” Alex said.

        “Yeah,” agreed Sean.

Sean moved so that he was sitting at the edge of the bed. He slowly stood up and pulled his boxers up to his waist. Alex did the same thing before the two got dressed into the rest of their clothes. Afterwards, they headed downstairs. It was quiet down there, which made it obvious that Alex's parents were gone.

“Well, I guess I should probably head home so I can get ready for work,” Sean said.

A bad feeling started to fill Alex up as he heard those words. The dream immediately started to play through his head like a broken record player.

“Maybe you shouldn't go,” suggested Alex, a bit of worry in his voice.

A puzzled look washed onto Sean's face as he looked at Alex.

“I have to,” said Sean. “If I don't go to work I'll get fired.”

“I don't know, something really doesn't feel right,” said Alex.

        “What do you mean?”

“Well, it's kind of about the dream I had. Jim shot you in it and it's kind of scaring me a little.”

“Don't worry about it. It was just a dream.”

“Yeah, but what if it comes true? I don't want to see you getting killed.”

“I won't get killed. It was just a dream and it's not going to coming true. There's nothing to worry about. Now I need to get going.”

“Fine, at least let me walk you to your house then.”

        “Alright.”

The two left the house and headed to Sean's. Alex's eyes darted from one spot to another, keeping a look out for Jim. Nervousness had taken over him and it didn't leave him alone on the entire walk. However, there was never a single sight of Sean's brother and they reached the house safely.

“See?” asked Sean. “Nothing happened. It was just a dream.”

“Yeah,” said Alex, calming down a little now. “I guess you were right. Guess I shouldn't get so worked up over a dream like that.”

        “Yeah,” agreed Sean.

He reached up and kissed Alex on the lips. The two said their good-byes before Sean cut across the small front yard. Alex stood there and watched Sean until he disappeared inside the home. He then started to head back to his house.

Hours passed and Sean's shift ended. Once he got back home, he got out of his work uniform and changed into the clothes he had on before. Afterwards, he headed out of the house and began to make his way to Alex's house.

Sean soon turned the corner before heading down another street. His gaze was straight ahead and he soon caught notice of someone turning the corner at the other end of the road. Being too far away, Sean wasn't able to tell who it was. It didn't bother him in the slightest though and he just continued forth at a steady pace.

About two minutes later, the two neared each other. As they did so, Sean was able to see the person better. It then made him realize that it was Jim. He was actually quite surprised to run into him on the streets.

The two were soon about ten feet away from each other. It was then when Sean noticed the furious look that was on his older brother's face, which had tears rolling down the sides of it. Sean slowed down a little and soon halted dead in his tracks when he saw Jim remove a handgun from the pocket of his jeans. Sean stepped back a little as his eyes widened some.

“J-Jim, w-what are you doing with that gun?” Sean asked as fear started to consume him.

“What does it look like?” Jim questioned, a hint of anger in his voice.

Sean didn't say anything else as he stepped back a little more, his eyes glued onto the gun that was pointed straight at him.

“It's your fault dad died!” Jim yelled. “If it wasn't for you, he would've never committed suicide!”

“Jim, please put the gun down,” Sean pleaded, his voice shaking now.

“No!” he snapped. “Dad killed himself because of you and I'm going to make you pay for that! It's your fault he's dead! You should've been the one to die instead of him!”

“Come on Jim, just calm down,” Sean said as calmly as he could.

“Shut up! Don't tell me what to do!”

Sean's life started to pass right in front of his eyes now. Every single memory he had with Alex all played through his mind. Tears were starting to well up in his eyes from the fear he had. He wanted to run and get away from here, but he knew it wouldn't be a good idea to try something like that.

“Please Jim, don't do this,” pleaded Sean.

“I told you to shut the f**k up!” Jim screamed. “You ruined everyone's life! You killed dad! Why the hell should I not do this? You deserve hell for everything you did you stupid piece of s**t!”

Jim had enough. Sean saw his finger beginning to press down on the trigger. Before he could even try to run though, the gun was fired. Then everything went black.

Alex was somewhere nearby walking down an empty street. His eyes were fixed on the cloudy sky overhead as thoughts passed through his mind. However, his train of thought was disrupted as two gun shots filled the air. Out of natural reaction Alex stopped dead in his tracks and quickly looked from one place to another, trying to determine where the shots sounded from.

It was then when it hit him. His eyes widened and his heartbeat immediately started to pick up as fear engulfed him. He broke into a sprint in the direction of where the shots came from. After turning a corner, he saw two bodies littering the road just a ways ahead.

No, it couldn't be. This wasn't happening. He must be asleep in his bed at home. It was a dream. It just had to be. There was no way this could be real. Alex walked quickly towards the bodies laying on the ground, tears starting to build up in those hazel eyes of his. As he got closer, he was able to recognize the two bodies that had puddles of blood surrounding them.

He cried out as he rushed over to the side of the one he loved. Tears poured down his eyes as he fell to his knees next to the body. He scanned the boy for any signs of life, but there were none.

I don't know if I played this as well as I could have. If there's anything wrong with it or if there's something I could have added to make this chapter a little sadder, please tell me.

while a premonition is cool, having Jim being both in the dream and in reality is cliche, maybe have Alex's friend from the begining or Barny even. Have the dream seem totally unrealistic, then have Jim do it.
