Chapter 29A Chapter by Chris
School flew by quickly the following day. Not only was it a Friday, but it was Halloween too. There was much talking amongst the students about things they were going to do that night, such as going to costume parties. Sean and Alex already had their plan made for later on, which was to watch scary movies at Alex's house like the brown-haired boy proposed a couple weeks ago. Sean didn't bother going to Alex's house right away. He decided he would head until it was dark out so that the darkness would give more of a spooky atmosphere as they watched the movies. Several minutes after the trick-or-treating had begun, Sean left his house and started to walk down the darkened street. There were quite a few people walking about. Kids dressed in costumes ran from house to house collecting candy while their parents slowly trailed behind them. Sean couldn't help but to watch the excited children go about. The sight of them reminded him of the few times he was able to go trick-or-treating. After a couple minutes, Sean was about halfway to Alex's house. He was now walking down a quiet street, his gaze set straight ahead. There wasn't anyone on the street except for him, but it wasn't too surprising to Sean. All the outside lights on the houses were off, which meant they weren't handing out any candy. A large grove of trees sat just to the left of the road. Suddenly, the sound of a twig cracking reached his hear. Sean turned his head to look towards the trees. There didn't seem to be anyone there though. The dark-haired boy shrugged it off as he looked straight ahead again, figuring that he was probably just hearing things. A few seconds later, the crunching of a few leaves could be heard. This time Sean stopped in his tracks and looked towards the grove again. There still didn't seem to be anything there though except for trees. He passed it off as some kind of critter scurrying about. Before he began to walk again though, there was another sound of leaves crunching. Sean quickly looked around the entire area now, trying to tell where it came from. There still didn't seem to be anything in sight though. Fear started to fill Sean up now and he started to get a very bad feeling about this. Immediately dismissing the curiousness of what was causing the sounds, Sean resumed walking. A few more sounds of twigs snapping and leaves being crushed came forth again about five seconds later. Sean's breathing started to pick up a little now and his heart started to race. Next, several faint, hastened footsteps could be heard to the left. Mustering up the courage, Sean stopped in his tracks and turned to face in that direction. After swallowing hard, he called out, “I know you're there, show yourself!” Sean stood there for a few seconds as he peered through the grove of trees. No one said anything back to him and there still wasn't anything there. A couple more seconds passed and not another sound was made. Figuring he was maybe going crazy, he turned around to start walking again. However, as he did, his eyes widened and he stepped back a little. Right in front of him stood a person dressed in black with a zombie mask on their face. Their right hand was raised in the air, which was holding the pocketknife Sean tried to use to commit suicide. “Get away from me!” Sean yelled as the person rushed towards him. As they got in range, the person brought down the knife. Sean felt it tear through the skin on his arm. A sound of pain escaped his mouth as he tried to push the person away. The person was far too strong to be pushed so easily though. Soon Sean was pushed to the ground where he was pretty much defenseless. The person was crouched over him, slashing at Sean with the knife, who cried out in terror and pain. “You f*g!” a masculine voice shouted, the voice slightly muffled behind the mask. The familiarity of the voice never occurred to Sean. The panic that had consumed him had temporarily distracted him from such things. Right now the only thing he was worried about was living. “Get off me!” Sean cried as he tried to push the person away. “Someone help!” “Shut the hell up!” the masked guy yelled as he sent a fist to Sean's jaw before slicing the cheek with the knife. Pain was all over Sean's torso and arms. Warm, sticky liquid leaked from the cuts that were on him. Sean weakly tried to squirm to fight the boy off, but it was no use. “Queer!” the guy shouted. “You made him gay! You made him a f*g! You stupid queer! I'll kill you!” Sean continued to shout for help, which sometimes only ended up getting him punches in the face. His vision was beginning to tunnel some due to the blood that continued to ooze out of the multiple knife wounds on his body. His blood had already started to accumulate in puddles around him. “Hey, get away from him!” a deep voice yelled out. The knife didn't come again. Sean heard quickened footsteps running away. A few more seconds later, footsteps were heard coming towards him and the wheezing of the man that had yelled also came into earshot too. “Hey kid, you okay?” the man asked as he got down towards him. And that was the last thing Sean heard before he blacked out. © 2008 ChrisAuthor's Note
