Chapter 25

Chapter 25

A Chapter by Chris

The weekend went by quickly for the two boys. They spent quite a bit of time with each other, mainly doing so at Alex's house. There was more to do there than at Sean's and they felt as though they had more privacy there too. At Sean's house, Aunt Kathy always liked to check on them every so often to ask if they needed anything. They knew she meant well, but it was difficult for them to kiss with the fear of Aunt Kathy barging in on them hanging over their heads.

It was now a Monday. Sean called Alex telling him that he was sick and that he wasn't going to school so he wouldn't bother picking him up. After rubbing it into Sean's face about being right about how he should've worn a sweatshirt while they were outside in chilly weather, Alex got in the car and drove to school.

Once he entered the building, he made his way to the Junior hall so he could go to his locker. People stared at him as he walked by, some of them snickered while others gave looks of disgust. His stomach knotted a little as he started to get the feeling of what this was all about. However, he tried to push the possibility from his head. They couldn't be doing this because of his sexuality. If Vincent would have told people, they would've started Friday instead of waiting until today, right? The more he walked down the hall though, the more he doubted this.

When he finally came to his locker, he opened it and started to get the things he needed for the first half of the day. As he did so, he could hear some people calling him names like “f*g” and “queer.” He tried to ignore them the best to his ability and once he finished at his locker, he closed it up before walking down the hall.

“Ew, it's the queer!” a boy pointed out from the side.

“Don't turn away from him unless you want him staring at your a*s!” one of the other boys nearby said.

Alex continued to make his way around the school. The jeering continued, but Alex tried to tune him out as best as he could. As they continued though, Alex started to become more and more upset. Not only that, but he felt angered too. Vincent must've told them. How else could they have figured out? There was no one else around on the stairs on Friday, so no one else could have overheard them talking. Angered even more by this, Alex set off to search for the male. After walking a little more, he spotted him. Alex picked up his pace until he caught up to Vincent.

“Get away from me,” Vincent said coldly as his eyes remained fixed ahead of them.

“Why did you tell everyone?” Alex asked a little angrily.

“Get away from me,” Vincent repeated.

“I want to know why you told everyone.”

“I didn't tell a single person. Why the hell do you think I would want people to know I was hanging out with a queer? There, I told you. Now back off you stupid f*g.”

Vincent pushed Alex away from him a little before he sped up. Once he regained his footing, he stood there and watched Vincent for a moment before sighing in a slightly saddened manner. Not only would he have to put up with all the jeering for who knows how long, but it seemed he had lost Vincent as a friend too. The bell rang now and Alex headed to his first period class.

The first two classes went by at a painfully slow pace. Students even picked on him during class. They called him names quietly so the teacher couldn't hear him and also tried to trip him whenever he was walking around the room, though without the teachers noticing. Sometimes paper balls were even thrown at him.

In the halls it was just about the same as it was when the school day started. Some people made fun of him while their peers laughed. Others gave him cold or disgusted looks. Most of the guys tried to stay clear of him too as though he was carrying some kind of disease.

When it came time for third period, Alex headed to his study hall. Vincent was already there, but Alex knew better than to sit next to him. Instead Alex sat at the far left of the room. People didn't bother him as much here. Since it was usually so quiet in the room and since the teacher was always constantly looking up from her desk, they never really had a time to pick on him.

Once study hall was over, Alex left the classroom and made his way to the stairs that were hardly ever used. At least that way he could maybe get away from all the constant name callings for a few seconds. However, when he did reach the stairs, there was a guy walking down the stairs.

“F*****g f*g,” the boy muttered as they nearly passed each other.

As they did begin to pass one another, the boy pushed Alex a little, which caused the boy to stumbled on the stairs and fall hard onto his knees. Alex just watched the boy for a moment before letting out a sigh. He slowly rose to his feet before continuing his way towards his class.

That boy and Vincent weren't the only violent people that Alex encountered. There were a few others that pushed him or hit him as they passed by. Other students continued to make fun of him too. As the day progressed, Alex became more upset over all of this.

When school ended, Alex went out to his car as quickly as possible. The sooner he got to it, the sooner he could leave. As he neared his black car, he noticed a dent on the trunk. A roar of laughter came from just a ways away. Alex looked in that direction to see a group of boys lingering around a car. Not going to bother with it, he got into his car and drove off.

Once he was home, Alex quietly went up to his room, not even bothering to take the moment to greet his mother. Like usual, he decided to check his email before starting his homework. Seeing the large number of emails he had, he quickly started to open them. As he did so, he became even more saddened. All of them were somehow making fun of him for his sexuality. After opening up the tenth email, Alex deleted all of them before walking over to his bed to lay down.

About thirty or so minutes later, his mother called him down for dinner. He went down to the dining room and sat down at the table. Nothing was said between the three of them for a while as they began eating.

“I saw that you have a dent on your car,” his father said several seconds later. “You didn't get in a car accident did you?”

        “No,” Alex replied.

“How did you get it then?”

        “I don't know. I didn't even know I had one.”

There was a moment of silence before his mother and father started to talk. Alex didn't say anything as he ate slowly. Some of the time he ended up only playing with his food. After eating about half of his food, he excused himself from the table, scraped the food off his plate and into the trash, and put the dishes into the sink before heading up to his room. Once there, he went over to his bed and laid down, not in the mood to do his homework right now.

A few seconds later, there was a light rapping at his door. Alex turned his head towards it to see it opening just enough for his mom to peek her head through.

“Mind if I come in?” she asked him.

“. . . Go ahead,” Alex said a little quietly as he looked up at the ceiling.

She slowly moved towards the bed before sitting down at the side of it.

“Is there something wrong?” his mother asked.

        Alex shook his head.

“You sure? You seemed pretty upset about something during dinner.”

        “It's nothing. I'm fine.”

“There must be something on your mind. I cooked your favorite dinner tonight, but you didn't even eat all of it.”

“There's nothing wrong. I just wasn't that hungry tonight, that's all.”

        “You sure you – ”

“Look, I said there's nothing wrong!” Alex yelled. “Just drop it already, okay?”

A surprised look came on both of their faces after Alex said that. The boy didn't really mean it. All of the frustration and anger he was feeling right now just kind of grabbed a hold of him at that particular moment. He heaved forth a sigh as he slowly looked down towards the bed.

“I'm sorry, but I really don't want to talk right now,” he told her a little quietly. “I just need to be alone for a little bit.”

        His mother slowly nodded.

“Okay,” she said so quietly that it was nearly inaudible.

She slowly raised herself from the edge of the bed before walking out of the room, quietly shutting the door behind her. Another sigh escaped the boy's parted lips as he just stared up at the ceiling, hoping that tomorrow would be a better day.

The next few chapters would be a great place to put in a different perspective, Alex's perspective on why he thinks it's wrong. Lets get into a homophobe's head. Is it cause he's gay, or cause he's just a hateful religious b*****d? Also the mother, what kind of thoughts are going through her head? Would she even think of her son being gay? The third perspective is not needed, however it would be a great thing to do. if you can pull it off.

It's so mean that people treat other people like just because they're differant....
Great chapter though!
