![]() Chapter 4A Chapter by Chris![]() It's another day of school. Sean and Alex are shown a little bit more.![]()
It was a bit dark out the following morning due to the cloudy sky. Puddles laid on roads and sidewalks from the heavy rain the town experienced the previous night. Students made their way into the school. Some of them looked tired and miserable like the weather did. Alex parked his black car in the section of the parking lot designated for Juniors. After getting out of the car and grabbing his backpack, he made his way inside. He was a bit earlier than what he needed to be, but it didn't bother him. Alex didn't mind being early to school. It did give him some time to talk with Vincent after all. When he got inside, Alex went to his locker to get some of his things out of it before walking down the hall. It wasn't long until he came to Vincent, who was getting things out of his locker. “Hey,” Alex greeted as he leaned his shoulder against the lockers next to Vincent's. Vincent looked over at Alex and said a “hey” before turning his attention back to his locker. His eyes scanned the inside of it as if to make sure he had everything that he would need for his first few classes before closing the locker door. He put his backpack on his back before turning to face Alex. “I almost hit a deer on my way here,” Vincent said. “Really?” Alex said before letting out a small laugh. “Yeah. Stupid thing decided to come out of nowhere and get in the road. Luckily I managed to slam on the brakes before I hit it. I swear if I didn't stop sooner my bumper would've been ruined.” A dull look swept onto Alex's face as he heard this. Vincent was always known to care a lot about his car. He practically washed it every other week as long as it wasn't raining or it wasn't cold out. Being one that cared more about an animal's life than a car though, Alex was a little disappointed about what Vincent last said. Not like he could really believe the taller male though. He had been known to tell fake stories after all. Vincent didn't notice the look on Alex's face though. He never caught onto things too quickly. With his short story over now, he changed the topic. “Wanna come and shoot some hoops later on?” “Alright. I'll go over to your house after dinner.” The two started to walk now, not really going anywhere in particular. “So do you have any good teachers?” Vincent asked. “Yeah, they're okay,” Alex replied. “None of them are too bad, but they're not that great either.” “I don't know,” said Vincent. “Our study hall teacher seems pretty cool. She's kinda hot too.” Alex didn't say anything but instead responded with a small shrug of his shoulders. He never really paid too much attention to those kinds of things when it came to female teachers. Actually, he had never thought about a girl being hot period. “And what about you?” Alex finally asked. “You like any of your teachers besides the study hall one?” Vincent gave a small shrug before saying, “I guess. Like you said, there aren't really any great ones, but they aren't a******s or b*****s either.” Alex nodded. “And how was lunch yesterday?” Vincent asked. “It was okay. I sat with a few people from our grade.” Vincent just nodded. The two started to talk about other things as they continued to walk around the school.
Meanwhile, Sean was making his way to his locker, hoping that he would actually maybe be able to put some of his things in it. He wasn't the strongest person in the world and having a backpack full of things wasn't really easy for him to lug around the entire day. Fortunately, when he got there, none of the boys from yesterday were there. Sean got out his schedule so he could look to see what his locker combination was. While glancing at the paper every so often, he turned the dial on the lock to the numbers before opening the locker up. He then set his backpack on the ground and knelt down in front of it before starting to put some of his things into the empty locker. As he did this though, the boys ended up walking over. Sean noticed them from the corner of his eye, but he paid no mind to them. He was hoping that maybe if he ignored them they wouldn't bother him. Unfortunately, this wasn't going to be the case. “You're in my way,” one of the boys said with a smirk on their face. “I'm almost done,” Sean told him without making any eye contact. “God, you're so slow. Hurry up!” Sean didn't respond as he continued doing what he was doing. “Speed up the pace! I don't got all day you know!” “Just be patient,” said Sean, a hint of annoyance in his voice. “You're taking forever! Move out of the way!” The boy shoved Sean to the side with his foot, causing the boy to slide to the side on his butt and to accidentally throw the two binders that were in his hands to the side. Sean looked up from where he was to see his backpack get tossed down the hall a little ways. “What was that for?” Sean said angrily as he stood in front of the boy in a quarrelsome way. The boy stood there and looked at Sean with his arms crossed over his chest and a smirk on his face. “And what are you going to do about it?” he asked. Sean didn't say anything as he looked at the boy, who towered over him by a good five inches. His friends stepped behind him and looked at Sean too. A quiet sigh escaped Sean's mouth before he went to go gather his things that were scattered in the hall. “I knew you would wuss out,” the boy said to Sean as he started to walk away. Sean didn't say anything back to the boy. After gathering his things, he headed to English class.
After two very slow and boring classes, it was now time for third period. Alex was making his way to his next class, which was study hall. When he got to the classroom, he saw Vincent sitting at a desk in the back of the room farthest from the teacher's desk. Alex walked over and sat down at the desk that was next to Vincent's. “Hey,” Vincent greeted. “Hey,” Alex said back. The bell rung and the teacher walked into the classroom, closing the door behind her so that there would be some peace and quiet for those who needed to get their work done. “Okay, find something to work on,” she told everyone in the room as she made her way over to her desk. Both Alex and Vincent reached into their backpacks and got some of their homework out. “So what do we do in English?” Vincent asked in a somewhat quiet voice so that the teacher wouldn't yell at him for talking. “You go over the summer reading,” Alex answered in the same quiet tone of voice. “Lame. I didn't even read it. Did you?” “Yeah. I don't want to fail the test we're going to take tomorrow.” “Damn, forgot about that. Don't think I'll be able to read the book in one night, will I?” “Probably not, but I can tell you what happens.” Alex told Vincent what happened in the book they had to read over the summer. Vincent threw in a nod every so often as he listened. “Thanks dude,” Vincent said when Alex finished. “No problem,” said Alex. “And what do we do in Algebra II?” “We take some sort of pre-test. It's over the stuff we learned two years ago.” Alex sighed when he heard this before just giving a nod of his head. The two continued to talk every so often as they tried to do the little homework they were given in their first two classes. It wasn't long though until the bell rang. They put their things away before heading off to their next class. After fourth period, it was time for lunch. Sean made his way over to the table he sat at yesterday and sat down. He put his lunch bag on the table and pulled out his bottle of water and ham and cheese sandwich. As he began to eat, his brown eyes wandered about the cafeteria. At a table not too far away from his, Sean noticed Alex sitting by himself. Seeing this made Sean think a little. Maybe he wasn't the only one who felt alone in this world? Maybe there really were other people like him? Perhaps there were people who shared the same feelings as him? However, all those questions were soon answered when he saw a few others sitting down at the table with Alex. A sigh escaped Sean's mouth. No, there weren't others like him after all. A few minutes into lunch, the boys from earlier this morning were throwing grapes at him. Some of them missed and bounced off the table while others pelted his face or arm. Sean tried to ignore it to the best of his ability. The annoyance must've been showing on his face though because he could hear them laughing at him. The barrage of flying fruit ended about two minutes later though. They must've ran out of ammo. When lunch was over, Sean made his way to his fifth period class. Once he reached the math room, he took a seat at the same desk as the previous day. He patiently sat there and waited for class to begin while looking at the other students when they came into the room. Class began about four minutes later. The teacher told them about the pre-test that they were going to take. She told them that it wasn't for a grade, but she just wanted to see how much they remembered from Algebra I. As soon as the pre-test was handed to him, Sean quickly started. He didn't really have a hard time with any of the problems that were on it. Math was an easy subject for him and he still remembered a few things that they covered two years ago. Sean was the first one to finish the pre-test. Alex watched as Sean walked to the front of the room to hand in his pre-test. He couldn't help but to feel a little surprised that the boy finished so soon. Alex looked down at his paper to see that he was only on the sixth problem. Unfortunately, he didn't remember too much of anything from Algebra I. One by one all the students handed in their pre-tests when they finished. Alex watched all of them hand it in as he sat there, trying to finish his own pre-test. He struggled quite a bit with a lot of the questions. Sure this wasn't going to get graded, but he still wanted to try. After a while though he ended up putting random answers down. He got tired of trying to get the right answers when he was probably nowhere even close to getting them. By the time he did finish, it was the end of class. Alex walked out of the classroom, a little disappointed about how horrible he did at the pre-test. He just hoped the other two classes wouldn't be too bad. © 2008 Chris |
