Chapter 12A Chapter by Chris
The two were awoken the following day by Jake's alarm clock. They got out of their beds and got ready for school. Once they got their things ready, they decided to head to the cafeteria to go eat breakfast. As the two made their way in that direction, Adam took Jake's hand in his. The two looked at each other and smiled before looking ahead as they continued to walk. On their way to the cafeteria, quite a lot of people stared at them. Some had appalled looks on their faces while others didn't really care too much. Adam noticed the looks they got, but at the same time, he didn't really care. He felt comfortable being with Jake. When they got to the cafeteria, they got their food and sat down at a table together. Jake's friends ended up sitting with them too and the one that was with Jake that one night didn't dislike Adam anymore. After they ate, they headed to the academic building. Once there, Jake and Adam parted ways to head to their first class of the day. The first few classes didn't go by too slowly for Adam. Word about him being in love with Jake was starting to get around the school though and as the day progressed, Adam ended up getting taunts about him being gay. He was a little bothered by them, but not too badly. When it came time for lunch, Adam sat with Jake and his friends like he did earlier. As he ate and talked to them, he looked over towards the table Brad and the others sat at. A sigh then left his mouth. He wasn't sure if Brad hated him or not, but he was a little too afraid to find out. However, he was sure that he would probably find out sooner or later. After lunch, Jake and Adam began making their way back to the academic building to go to their last two classes of the day. Before they could get to it though, a few other boys came up to them with smirks or grins on their faces. “Hey look, it's the queers of the school,” one of them said. Jake and Adam looked at the other boys coldly. Adam opened his mouth, about to say something, but then someone stood in between him and the other boys. It was Brad. “Back off,” Brad told them. “If you even think about messing with them, you'll have to deal with me. Got it?” The boys looked up at Brad, who glowered down at them, before one of them said, “Okay, we get it. Jeez, we'll leave them alone.” They walked off and Brad turned around a couple seconds later. He gave the two a small smile and Adam returned it with one of his own. “You two okay?” Brad asked. “Yeah,” Adam said. “So does this mean you don't hate us?” “Nah, not at all,” said Brad. “I was just surprised yesterday, that's all. But that's not really important right now. We should head to class. Don't want to be late.” The three started to make their way to their classes. Adam was perfectly happy with the way things have turned out. He started off thinking this school year was going to be bad, but it didn't look like it was going to be so bad after all. Not only that, but after what has happened, Adam started to believe that maybe the academy's motto was true. The school had helped him bloom into something, and that was his true self. © 2008 ChrisFeatured Review
