Chapter 7A Chapter by Chris
Adam woke up a little late in the morning the following day. As soon as he did all the thoughts about the date with Katie last night immediately flooded his mind. A curse word slipped out of his mouth before he let out a sigh. He has only been awake for a few seconds and he was already starting to dislike today. None of this friends were in the cafeteria when Adam got there and so he ended up eating lunch alone. It didn't really bother him though because he knew he wouldn't be able to pay attention to anything they would say anyway. Not only that, but he knew that Brad would pester him about telling him how the date went last night, and he didn't really want to talk about it. When he finished eating breakfast, Adam just walked around the campus a little, trying to think of what to do. He really didn't want to see Brad right now and the last thing he wanted to do was to have Katie run up to him. At the same time though, he didn't really want to be cooped up inside his room the whole day either. Since there was really nothing else for him to do, all he did was walk around. After walking around a little, Adam ended up sitting down underneath a lone tree near the academic building. His eyes wandered around the area a little. Along the wall of the building was a patch of autumn mums. However, the mums were nothing but buds, which made it look rather dull and almost miserable in a way. Adam's eyes rested on the buds as he sat there and started to think a little. As he did so, he soon came to the realization that there really wasn't much else for him to do but to break up with Katie. If he didn't, he would be miserable his entire time here until she got tired of him. Since there wasn't really any other options, Adam decided he would have to do just that and so he decided to go find Katie. The campus was large and so finding a single student was practically like trying to find a needle in the haystack. Luckily though, Adam finally found Katie with her friends walking across the school grounds. He went over to them and Katie looked over at him. As soon as she did, her eyes lit up and a smile graced her lips. It was already obvious to Adam that this was going to be difficult. “Hey Adam,” Katie said. “Hey,” he said. “Can I talk to you for a second?” “Okay.” Katie walked away from her friends, who stood there and looked at the two. Adam took her a ways away from them so they couldn't overhear the conversation and so he could talk to her a little more privately. “What did you want to talk about?” she asked. “There's something I have to tell you,” Adam said. He stopped there, not really able to bring himself around to saying it. However, the look on Adam's face was a good enough hint for Katie to start to get the idea. The large smile that was on her face slowly vanished from her features. “I'm sorry, but we're going to have to break up,” Adam said. A sad expression was on Katie's face now. She almost looked like she would begin crying sometime soon too. “Why?” she asked. “I thought you enjoyed last night? Did I do something wrong?” “No, not at all,” Adam said. “You didn't do anything wrong, and yeah, I did like last night, but I just don't think I'm ready for this kind of thing.” “Okay, I get the picture,” she said, almost on the verge of tears. “I'm sorry Katie,” Adam apologized. “I truly am. We can still be friends though.” “It's okay,” she said. “Sorry, but I can't stay and talk though. There's something I have to go do.” Katie turned around and walked over to her friends. It was then when she started crying and the other girls immediately started to comfort their friend. Adam watched this for a second and let out a heavy sigh before turning around and walking off. Adam continued walking around the school. He felt completely horrible for doing that to Katie. He wished he would have never agreed to go on a date with her. If he didn't none of this would've ever happened. Sure she would probably be upset with him, but at least she probably wouldn't have been as upset as she is now. It wasn't long though until Brad ended up coming up to him. Based on the look on his face, Adam could already tell that Brad must have found out what happened just minutes ago. “Dude, I passed Katie a few minutes ago and she was crying,” he began. “What happened?” “I broke up with her,” Adam said. “What the hell did you do that for?” Brad asked as if Adam had gone insane. “I'm just not interested in her, that's all,” Adam said irritably. “Why not dude?” the taller boy continued to question. “She's just not my type, okay?” “Okay, then why don't we go try to pick up some girls. You and I can both --” “I don't want a girlfriend right now okay?” Adam said angrily. Brad didn't say anything but instead just stared at the brown-haired boy. Adam looked back at him before looking down towards the ground a little and letting out a sigh. “Sorry, I'm just not in that great of a mood right now,” Adam apologized. “It's fine,” said Brad. “I guess I'll just leave you alone for a little bit then.” Adam nodded, not saying anything else. Brad turned around and slowly walked off. Another sigh left Adam's mouth before he decided to head towards his room. He was too upset right now to do much of anything else. When he got there, he walked over to his bed and let himself fall onto it after kicking his shoes off. Jake wasn't in the room right now which was just perfect for the boy. He needed some time to himself so he could calm down and get over everything that has happened today. Not only that, but the last thing he wanted was to flip out on Jake too. Unfortunately, it wasn't long until Jake came into the room. Adam was facing the opposite way though so he wouldn't have to worry about making any eye contact with the other male. However, Jake ended up speaking regardless. “Hey,” he greeted. “Hi,” Adam said. Jake was able to tell that something was bothering Adam by the sound of his voice. The small smile that was on his face faded away as he stood in the middle of the room and looked at the other boy in an almost concerned way. “Something wrong?” he asked. “It's nothing,” Adam said. “You sure? You can talk about it if you want. I'm all ears.” “Today just wasn't really that great of a day, that's all.” “Wanna talk about it?” “No, it's fine. It's nothing really that important.” Jake just gave a nod, whether the other could see it or not. He didn't bother questioning about it anymore, knowing that Adam probably didn't want to be bothered. Instead he walked over to his bed and just sat down, starting to read his novel. A few minutes later, Adam rolled over onto his other side. His eyes rested on Jake now and a few thoughts passed through his mind, which he did not bother trying to fight. Actually, just laying there and thinking about them helped him calm down some. It wasn't long until he ended up dozing off. © 2008 Chris |
